Boone at Carroll

Carroll       15

Boone         5

The Carroll Tigers had an electric offense that sparked early and kept their momentum against Boone Monday evening.

The Tigers last week against Boone went nine innings with the Toreadors where they won 9-8, but this time around they only needed five innings. Boone got things started off in the top of the first with two runs scored while Carroll popped off for seven runs. Averi Burke and Alyssa Brant were both big reasons for the explosive offense the Tigers had with Burke going 3-3 with three runs scored, two RBI, and two stolen bases while Brant went 2-3 with a double and four RBIs.

Boone’s offense wasn’t able to produce as many runs, getting one run scored in the second, third, and fourth innings. Carroll continued to soar with a run scored in the second, two in the third, and another five in the fourth. Despite a great offensive night, Carroll’s defense was not a bright spot. On 25 chances, the Tigers only had 15 putouts and committed two errors and Brant in the circle allowed 16 hits and five earned runs while recording three strikeouts.

Two massive scoring innings and enough productivity on defense gave the Tigers their second straight conference win on the season as they defeated Boone 15-5 in five innings. The win improved Carroll to 14-14 overall on the season and 2-11 in the Raccoon River Conference. They continue with their final week of the regular season with a road game on Tuesday, June 28th where they take on Gilbert.

Kuemper at Clarinda

Game 1

Kuemper     6

Clarinda       5

The Kuemper Knights put up two solid wins over conference foe Clarinda that gave them an edge in the conference standings.

In game one, the Knights were able to get runners across home plate consistently and keep Clarinda in the rear-view mirror. The Cardinals did see themselves up 2-0 after one inning of play, but the Knights responded in the second inning with two runs of their own. Alexis Diercksen and Kamryn Venner both got on base off singles and were brought home thanks to a big triple from Kaci Peter to tie the ballgame at 2-2. Clarinda grabbed the lead back in the bottom half of the inning at 3-2 until Kuemper grabbed the lead right back in the fourth. Kenzie Schon got home thanks to an RBI double from Kenadee Loew to tie the game at 3-3 in the third, and Alexis Diercksen was brought around the diamond thanks to an RBI single from Hailey Ostrander to give the Knights the 4-3 lead.

The runs kept coming from Kuemper as they scored another run in the fifth when Schon was brought home by Kaylie Diercksen off a single, and another run in the seventh as Jordan Schwabe was able to get home off Schon’s RBI double, giving Kuemper the 6-3 lead. Clarinda, after four scoreless innings, was able to bounce back in the bottom half of the seventh inning. They’d end up putting up two runs to cut the Knights lead down to 6-5, but Kuemper was able to close out the game and come away with the win. Kamryn Venner was the leader in the circle as she went seven innings pitched giving up eight hits, three earned runs and recorded five strikeouts in the win.

Game 2

Kuemper       9

Clarinda         1

Kuemper had better baserunning and a bigger score in game two against Clarinda.

Kuemper led off the first inning with a run scored as Hailey Ostrander hit a single and was brought around off Jordan Schwabe’s RBI single. Before Schwabe could score at home, she was tagged out by the first baseman. Chloe Venteicher and the Kuemper defense did a great job in this game of keeping Clarinda on their toes. Venteicher, in seven innings of work in the circle, allowed only three hits, one earned run, and recorded three strikeouts while the defense behind her had 21 putouts and only one error.

Kuemper’s offense continued to produce runs, getting two more home runs in the second inning. Kaci Peter brought home Kaylie Diercksen and Alexis Diercksen got home off a passed ball from the Clarinda defense. Keeping Clarinda scoreless in the second inning, the momentum was still on Kuemper’s side as they added four more runs to their total in the third. Melinda Schaefer scored from second off a passed ball, Kaylie Diercksen was credited with an RBI when she brought home Jordan Schwabe and a run scored when she scored off another passed ball, and Kamryn Venner had an RBI single that scored Kenadee Loew.

The 7-0 lead continued to grow for Kuemper as they put up another two runs in the fourth when Loew knocked a two RBI double. Clarinda’s offense was able to produce a run scored in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too late as Kuemper grabbed the win in game two by a score of 9-1.

The two wins elevated Kuemper to 18-13 overall on the season and 13-4 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference, giving them the second-best record in the conference. The regular season continues for the Knights as they travel to take on Denison-Schleswig on Tuesday, June 28th.

Bedford at Audubon

Audubon      9

Bedford        3

The Audubon Wheelers got their wheels turning early as they played Bedford Monday and came away with a win.

Audubon’s defense started off the top of the first inning with a nice play at home plate to tag out a Bedford runner before they could score. They followed that defensive performance up with a four-run bottom of the first inning. Jordan Porsch and Kali Irlmeier hit no better than a single in their first at bats, but they, along with Addie Hocker and Kylee Hartl, were brought home thanks to a plethora of errors from the Bedford defense and good baserunning on their part, with Porsch and Irlmeier stealing second.

The solid defensive effort from Audubon continued with Kali Irlmeier getting two strikeouts in the second inning and only allowing one hit. In three innings of work, Irlmeier allowed six hits, two earned runs, and struck out two batters. The Wheeler offense continued to produce runs in the second inning, with Mattie Nielsen hitting a single and stealing second base and was later scored by Jordan Porsch who stole third and was brought home by Irlmeier’s RBI single. Alexis Obermeier replaced Irlmeier in the circle in the fourth inning and she was allowed three hits and one earned run while recording three strikeouts in four innings of work.

More errors plagued Bedford’s defense in the fifth inning with Michelle Brooks reaching first off, an error and third off a wild pitch and Victoria Asmus stealing home plate. The Bulldogs were able to get two runs scored in the third and a final run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to compare to Audubon’s nine run game as the Wheelers were crowned winners by a score of 9-3.

The win improved the Wheelers to 11-11 overall on the season. They continue the regular season as they travel to take on CAM Anita on Tuesday, June 28th.

West Harrison at Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va            12

West Harrison      3

The Ar-We-Va Rockets were able to snap a three-game skid Monday evening as they had solid baserunning and scored plenty against West Harrison.

Neither offense was able to do much for the first two innings of the contest until the third inning where Ar-We-Va was first to strike. Trista Reis got on the bag off a hit by pitch and she was quickly brought home by Maggie Ragaller who crushed a home run to center field for two scores. Delaney Schurke was able to get to first base off a fielder’s choice and was later brought home by Emma Leiting, who was able to hit an RBI single, giving Ar-We-Va the 3-0 lead. West Harrison was able to break their silence with a sacrifice hit to score a runner but left two stranded on second and third.

The Rockets’ offensive luck continued into the fourth inning where they racked up a massive nine runs scored to take the 12-1 lead. Some highlights from the inning included Sophie Jackson being credited with two RBIs thanks to the error from West Harrison and eight grader Morgan Berg hitting an RBI triple. The Hawkeyes had a lot of errors in this inning, including four wild pitches and four errors from the infield. While West Harrison added two more runs to their total in the fifth inning, the Ar-We-Va defense was able to shut them down for the last two innings. Amber Ragaller had a solid night in the circle, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, and recording two strikeouts in seven innings of work. After the dust settled, it was the Rockets who grabbed another conference win by defeating West Harrison 12-3.

The win elevated Ar-We-Va to 4-12 on the season and 4-10 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They have another conference challenge on Tuesday, June 28th when they travel to take on Glidden Ralston.

Coon Rapids Bayard at CAM Anita (Suspended game from June 7th)

CAM Anita                     5

Coon Rapids Bayard     2

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders were able to tie up their game against CAM Anita late, but the Cougars got a late run that led to their victory Monday.

This game was suspended back on June 7th and the two teams played the game in Coon Rapids Bayard, before their regularly scheduled game. The Cougars would get on the board first in the bottom of the first with a run scored, leading 1-0. They’d follow that up in the bottom of the fourth inning with another run scored to lead 2-0. Emma Hart was in the circle for the Crusaders and put up a solid effort. In six innings of work, she only allowed three earned runs off four hits while recording four strikeouts. The defense behind her did see struggles; on 28 chances they had 18 putouts and committed two errors.

The Crusader offense was able to tie up the game in the top of the fifth at 2-2. Emma Hart and Bridget Shirbroun found their way home by themselves without any RBIs credited to the other batters. The tie was short-lived as CAM Anita grabbed the lead back with a two-run inning of their own to get up 4-2. Another run in the fifth gave the Cougars a 5-2 lead and their defense did the rest of the work as the Cougars were victorious by a final score of 5-2.

CAM Anita at Coon Rapids Bayard

CAM Anita                     3

Coon Rapids Bayard     0

In their second game of the day, Coon Rapids Bayard kept CAM Anita offense close to them, but late in the game the Cougars once again took a win away from the Crusaders.

A big portion of this game was a showcase of both defenses as the game was scoreless for a whole five innings. The Crusader defense did see improvements from the previous games; on 30 chances they got 21 putouts, but still committed two errors. Emma Hart also allowed more hits in this game, eight hits, but did not allow an earned run while recording a solid seven strikeouts in the loss. CAM Anita’s offense got on the board in the sixth inning with three runs scored that ended up being the difference maker. Coon Rapids Bayard Head Coach says they left runners on base in several innings and couldn’t find ways to score against CAM Anita. The Cougars were once again victorious, this time by a score of 3-0.

After both games, the Crusaders fell to a record of 12-9 overall on the season and 9-6 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They have one of their final regular season games on Tuesday, June 28th as they travel to take on Earlham.

South Central Calhoun      7

The South Central Calhoun offense was able to produce some highlights, but their defense allowed Emmetsburg to smack two home runs and put up plenty of hits Monday.

The E-Hawks didn’t waste any time getting their bats hot as they put up seven runs in the first inning alone. Two batters were able to smack home runs and kept getting runners on bags and scoring them. After South Central Calhoun was able to escape that half inning, they were able to respond with a run scored in the bottom half of the inning. The Titans’ big innings came in the third and fourth where they went back-to-back innings with three runs scored. Keira Hammen had another big game going 1-3 with a homerun and four RBIs. IKM-Manning at Underwood

Underwood         8

IKM-Manning      7

The IKM-Manning Wolves fought a good battle against Underwood, but the Eagles were able to take the win away at the last moment.

The Wolves in the top of the first inning were able to get a runner home and led 1-0 before Underwood went off and got four runners home in the bottom half of the inning. IKM-Manning’s offense stayed focused and kept producing runs until they tied up the game at 4-4 in the third inning. Despite the Wolves only recording seven hits, they were able to stay in the game. Jessica Christensen had the best night among her teammates, going 2-4 with two runs scored. Taylor Beckendorf had the best hit with a triple and got two runners home.

Both teams were tied again after five innings at 5-5 as both teams got runs scored. IKM-Manning was finally able to grab and maintain the lead as they got two runners home in the sixth to lead 7-5, and Underwood stayed close and cut down that lead to 7-6. IKM-Manning wasn’t able to manufacture any runs in the top of the seventh, so the game came down to the bottom of the seventh. Underwood’s offense was able to get back on the board and eventually walk off with the 8-7 win after scoring two runners.
