It was a tough day for the Merchants as Joplin came out swinging the bat well. They picked up a pair of hits in the 1st inning as their first two batters got on base and scored. The Merchants came up with some plays to get out of the inning with no more damage done. Carroll had a chance in the bottom 1st to grab the momentum, loading the bases with one out but didn’t score. Even though the Merchants pulled within 2-1 in the bottom 2nd Joplin kept swinging the bat well, out hitting the Merchants 16 to 9 with three extra base hits to one for Carroll. The Outlaws added 4-runs in both the 4th and 5th innings to separate themselves from the Merchants. Carroll scored 3 in the bottom 6th but it was too late.
Kyle Berg singled in the 2nd to score Noah Buss, pulling the Merchants within 2-1. They wouldn’t score again until the 6th. Danny Schweitzer singled to center field, scoring Kaleb Freeman and moving Seth Christiansen to 3rd base. Andrew Schroeder grounded to the 3rd baseman and reached on an error, scoring Christiansen, moving Kyle Berg to 2nd base and Danny Schweitzer to 3rd base. That set up the final run for the Merchants when Michael Alt walked, scoring Schweitzer.
Noah Buss had a very good day at the plate, picking up 3 hits, including a double. Kyle Berg, Andrew Schroeder and Danny Schweitzer all drove in a run while Kaleb Freeman, Seth Christiansen, Danny Schweitzer and Noah Buss scored. Cannon Frazier pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing 5 hits and 1 earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.
The Merchants host Joplin on Monday and the game will be broadcast on KIKD 106.7 with pregame starting around 6:25.
