Kuemper At Creston- Varsity Doubleheader

Kuemper scored 5-runs in the top of the 7th but were held only 3 hits as they dropped the second game of a doubleheader. The Knights got a solid pitching performance from Carter Putney holding Creston to 5 hits but they were able to push a pair of runs across the plate in the 5th, then added 4 more in the 6th to take a 6-0 lead. Kuemper nearly rallied in the top 7th. They had the tying run on base with only 1 out but a pair of ground outs ended the threat.

Jared Hausman was hit-by-pitch to start the 7th inning rally. Trevor Rial then walked and Cal Wanninger singled to score Rial after Hausman had scored on an error. Cal Wanninger scored on a passed ball and Koby Lampman kept the rally going, reaching on an error. Max Irlmeier walked and Cooper Pottebaum singled to score Lampman, then Carter Putney grounded out but scoring a run. Pottebaum advanced to 3rd on a passed ball with 2 outs but was stranded there. Kuemper only had three baserunners through the first six innings.

Cal Wanninger, Cooper Pottebaum and Carter Putney picked up the Knights hits with Putney doubling. Putney, Pottebaum and Wanninger each had an RBI. Trevor Rial, Jared Hausman, Tristan Janson, Koby Lampman and Griff Bauer scored runs for the Knights. Carter Putney went 5 1/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 earned runs with 7 strikeouts.

Kuemper erupted late to earn a split on the long road trip to Creston. The Knights out hit Creston 8-5 in game one. After Creston had scored a run in the 2nd and 3rd innings to take a 2-0 lead the Knights rally started with Logan Sibenaller reaching on an error. Cal Wanninger jumped started the rally with a double, scoring Sibenaller, then Wanninger scored on a single by Max Irlmeier. Kuemper took the lead on a double by Cooper Pottebaum, scoring Lampman, John Boes and Max Irlmeier. They added to the lead in the 5th with Sibenaller getting hit-by-pitch and Wanninger walking. Koby Lampman singled and John Boes doubled, scoring a pair of runs. Cooper Pottebaum singled to drive in a run and the Knights finished with 4 runs in the inning. Kuemper put the game away with a 3-run 6th inning.

Cooper Pottebaum had a big game with a pair of hits and driving in 4-runs. Koby Lampman added 2 hits and scored 3 times. John Boes and Max Irlmeier each had a pair of RBI and Boes added 3-runs scored. Logan Sibenaller scored a pair of runs. Mason Knerl picked up the win, pitching all 6 innings, with 5 hits and 2 earned runs.

The Knights sit 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. They play another doubleheaders on Tuesday at Lewis Central.

Carroll hung tough, trailing 3-1 as they went into the bottom 6th. They had a tough bottom 6th and Winterset was able to expand on their lead, scoring 6-runs. The offense struggled against Winterset number one starter Justin Hackett, picking up one hit. That came in the 6th inning when the Tigers scored their lone run. Austin Finneran pitched well, keeping Carroll in the game, going 5 innings, allowing 6 hits. Nolan Mohr doubled in the 6th to score Tate Schleisman for the Tigers lone run and hit.

Carroll falls to 1-14 overall and 0-8 in the Raccoon River Conference. They host Storm Lake on Tuesday.

Coon Rapids Bayard out hit Exira-EHK 11 to 3, exploding for 10-runs in the 3rd inning, and 5 more in the 4th inning. Lance Clayburg homered and the Crusaders had 5 extra base hits. They threw four pitchers who combined to go 6 innings, allowing 3 hits with 8 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Easton Hays, Lance Clayburg and Cal Heydon all had 2 hits  and 2 RBI. Hays tripled and Clayburg homered. Gabe Obert, Kolby Culbertson and Jacob Estrada all had a doubled and a pair of RBI. Clayburg scored 4 times while Parker Hays scored 3-runs. Easton Hays and Kolby Culbertson scored twice each. Jacob Estrada earned the win, going 1 inning. Lance Clayburg went 2 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits with 2 earned runs.

The Crusaders improve to 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the RVC. They travel to Newell Fonda on Tuesday.

Audubon built an early lead, picking up 10 hits, then cruised to their 7th win of the season. The Wheelers out hit Riverside 10-7, and drove in 8 of their 10 runs. They were patient at the plate, walking 6 times along with being hit 4 times. The Wheelers scored in every inning but the 6th, scoring 2-runs in the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th and single runs in the 3rd and 5th. Riverside scored 1 in the 1st and 3rd, then added 3 in the 6th.

Gavin Smith, Gavin Larsen and Jay Remsburg all had 2 hits with Larsen doubling and driving in 3-runs. Remsburg had a pair of RBI. Smith scored 3 times with Larsen scoring twice. Aaron Olsen picked up the win, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits.

The Wheelers are 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the Western Iowa Conference. They host Treynor on Tuesday.

One bad inning did in the Titans on Monday as they trailed 7-2 heading into the 4th inning but allowed 10-runs in the bottom 4th to end the game. Alta-Aurelia finished with 12 hits, including 2 home runs and 3 doubles while the Titans picked up 2 hits and only had 3 baserunners in the game. The Titans scored a pair of runs in the 2nd inning, highlighted by a double from Jayden Soard. Soard and Jacob Kalkwarf scored the Titan runs.

The Titans fall to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They host Ar-We-Va on Tuesday.

It was a rare tough night for Ar-We-Va pitching as they gave up 8-runs in the 1st inning and weren’t able to recover. The Rockets settled in after the 1st but CAM Anita added a pair of runs in the 4th and 5th innings. The Rockets finished with a pair of hits, picked up by Cooper Kock and Timothy Dose.

The loss drops Ar-We-Va to 2-8 overall and 2-7 in the Rolling Valley. They head to South Central Calhoun on Tuesday.
