St Albert at Kuemper
Kuemper split a double header with defending Class 1A champions St Albert Tuesday and had some smart plays and crazy endings. In game one, although the Falcons had 10 hits and only six runs to show for it, they were able to escape with the 6-2 win due to some rough hitting from Kuemper. Carter Putney had a solid outing on the hill, and through six innings, had five strikeouts while allowing four runs scored off seven hits. Benicio Lujano and Logan Sibenaller both had runs scored for the Knights with Lujano going 2-4 with a stolen base and Sibenaller goin 1-4 also with a stolen base. Six Kuemper baserunners were able to record a stolen base in this game.
Both teams carried momentum from game one into game two as both started off the first inning with two runs. Cal Wanninger got Sibenaller home off an RBI single and John Boes got Lujano home with a sac hit. The Knights continued to bring home runners as they grabbed the 3-2 lead in the second inning with Sibenaller getting home again thanks to another Wanninger RBI single. More runners got home for Kuemper in the third inning as Carter Putney and Sibenaller both recorded sac hits for RBIs to get Cooper Pottebaum and Koby Lampman home. St Albert got some momentum back with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning, right before a rain delay was called.
After nearly 40 minutes of a rain delay, the game resumed with both teams trying to get back into a groove. The Falcons did so in the top of the fifth inning with another solo runner scored, cutting down the Kuemper lead to 5-4. Kuemper stayed ahead of St Albert in the bottom of the fifth with a run scored of their own. Putney got home off a sac hit from Lujano and Sineballer nearly got home, but was tagged out. St. Albert once again responded with another run in the top of the sixth to cut down the Kuemper lead to one run again at 6-5. Kuemper’s big moment came from Lampman as he got two runners home off a big 2 RBI single to extend the Knight lead to 8-5. That base hit from Lampman proved to be bigger than ever as St Albert got two runs on the board in the top of the seventh and a runner at second base. Nate Heinrichs on the hill battled through some adversity and was able to trust the defense behind him to make the final 4-6 play to win game two 8-7 over St. Albert.
The Knights improved to 8-5 following this double header. They continue their busy week at Merchants Park on Thursday, June 9th when they take on Denison Schleswig.

A tough stretch for the Carroll Tigers continued Tuesday night as they took on the Boone Toreadors. The Toreadors further extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning with five runs scored, getting up 6-0. IKM-Manning had a nice answer in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own, cutting down the Wheeler lead to 2-1. That lead was taken over by IKM-Manning in the bottom of the third after a scoreless second inning. The Wolves roared back with a two run third inning to take the 3-2 lead heading into the fourth. Brody Blom for IKM-Manning had a big night in his plate appearances, including going 2-3 with two runs scored. Max Nielsen was responsible for those runs scored with his two RBIs on the night. Gavin Larsen for Audubon was on the hill for a majority of the night, recording eight strikeouts, two walks, and not allowing a hit.
Audubon’s struggles were finally figured out come the fifth inning where, after three scoreless innings, they were able to rattle off two runs to retake the lead at 4-2. They added on to that performance with a shutout inning in the bottom half and later another run scored in the top of the sixth, extending their lead to 5-3.
