Carroll Merchants Results Sunday, June 5th
Jefferson City At Carroll
Jefferson City 3
Merchants 2
The Merchants dropped their first game of the season on Sunday in the first game of what was supposed to be two 7 inning games. Game two was wiped out due to the rain storm that came through Carroll shortly after game 1 wrapped up. The Merchants never led on Sunday though they battled all the way through. Ryan Riddle pitched well for the second straight time at Merchants Park but the offense was unable to produce the same output we’ve seen in their first three games. Carroll finished the game with 4 hits, the same as Jefferson City. The pitching dual came down to a run in the top of the 4th by Jefferson City, giving them a 1-0 lead. They went ahead 1-0 in the 1st inning, only to see Carroll answer. Jefferson City took the lead for good in the 2nd inning with another run. Their run in the top 4th turned out to be the game winner. Carroll scored bottom 4th but was only able to scratch one run and left the tying run on 2nd base.
Hunter Reid led off the 2nd with a single and took 2nd base on an error, Michael Alt singled to move Reid to 3rd and he went on to score on another Jefferson City error. Reid walked with one out in the 4th but was forced out at 2nd on a ground out to shortstop by Alt. Alt moved to 2nd on a single by Parker Ingram and then stole 3rd. He scored on a Jefferson City error.
Jordan Matthewson, Hunter Reid, Michael Alt and Parker Ingram all had base hits for the Merchants and Reid and Alt scored. Ryan Riddle took the loss, though he pitched well, allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 4.
The Merchants are 3-1 on the season and will travel to Sedalia on Monday.
