Kuemper Hosts CYO Tournament

A tough 1st inning put the Knights in a bind and they weren’t able to recover as they fell in their opener of the CYO tournament. Remsen St Mary’s scored 8 times in the 1st inning, then held Kuemper hitless for the game. The Knights had two baserunners with Kaylie Diercksen and Alexis Diercksen both walking. Kamryn Venner came in to pitch in the 2nd inning and stemmed the tide until the Hawks scored a pair of runs in the 4th inning.

Another tough 1st inning put the Knights in a hole they didn’t dig out of for the second time on Saturday. Heelan scored 9-runs in the 1st inning and went on to beat Kuemper 10-1 in 6 innings. The Knights offense was held to one hit and three baserunners with Kenadee Loew picking up the lone hit and Kenzie Schon scoring their lone run in the 4th inning. Heelan added a run in the 5th inning. Schon and Kaci Peter both walked.

Kamryn Venner was named to the All-Tournament team, pitching a combined 9 2/3 innings, with 12 strikeouts and allowing just 3 earned runs.

Atlantic scored 6-runs in the 2nd inning, opening up a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Carroll offense struggled, picking up 1 hit but battling for 6 walks. Makalei Kofron singled for the Tigers lone hit and Olivia Rowedder scored for Carroll in the 5th inning.

Emma Kuhlmann hit a home run and had 4 RBI as Carroll improved to  1-1 at the tournament. The Tigers pounded out 10  hits, having seven different players with a hit and three players with multiple hits. Carroll took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning but weren’t able to pull away until a 4-run 6th inning made it 7-1. Clarinda scored in the top 6th to pull within 2.

Emma Kuhlmann led the Carroll offense with a pair of hits including a home run, along with driving in 4 runs. Ava Gross and Brenna Goins both had 2 hits with Gross driving in a run and Goines scoring a run. Camryn Schable got the win, going 6 innings, with 8 hits and 0 earned runs.

Carroll offense came out hot, scoring 4-runs in the 1st inning and 5 more in the 2nd inning. The Tigers cruised to a 2-1 record at the tournament with a 5 inning win. They picked up 13 hits including a pair of home runs by Ava Gross and 3 doubles. Alyssa Brant was tough in the circle, giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run, coming in the 6th inning. The Tigers had five players with two or more hits.

Parker Adams had a team high 3 hits for the Tigers while Ava Gross added a pair of solo home runs. Brielle Hinners, Makalei Kofron and Emma Kuhlmann also had 2 hits each. Kuhlmann who was named to the All-Tournament team had a team high 3 RBI. Kofron and Averi Burke each had 2 RBI. Kuhlmann, Kofron and Camryn Schable all doubled.

Carroll improved to 6-7 on the season and will travel to Boone on Monday on 93.7 KKRL.

Coon Rapids Bayard hung close after falling behind 5-0 going into the bottom 2nd inning. The Crusaders got on the board with a run in the 2nd inning. They rallied again in the 6th inning with a pair of runs but West Central Valley put the game away with a 4-run 7th inning. The Crusaders finished with 6 hits.

Malia Clayburg doubled as the Crusaders had six different players pick up a base hit. Bridget Shirbroun had 2 RBI and Malia Clayburg had the RBI on her double. Breeley Clayburg scored a pair of runs.

Coon Rapids Bayard exploded for 9-runs in the 1st inning and then held on for the win. They found a way to score 16-run on only 5 hits by being patient at the plate, working out 6 walks and being hit-by-pitch 3 times. The Crusaders kept the pressure on scoring 4-runs in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd. They were able to steal 7 basses as well, staying aggressive. GMG made it close scoring 6 times in the 4th inning as the game ended due to time.

Anna Hart had a team high 2 hits and scored twice. Bridget Shirbroun had a team high 3 RBI with Lacie Davis adding a pair of RBI. Emma Hart and Kadey Olson each scored 3-runs, Lacie Davis, Breeley Clayburg, Anna Hart and Bridget Shirbroun all scored twice.

The Crusaders improved to 5-3 overall and will travel to CAM Anita on Monday.
