The Merchants remained undefeated after rallying down 5-0 with a 9-run sixth inning on their way to a comfortable win. Carroll added 4-runs in the 7th to blow the game open. The win improves them to 3-0 and continues the trend of high scoring offensive performances.
Seth Christian doubled in the 6th with the bases loaded, cutting their deficit to 5-4. Kaleb Freeman singled a couple of batters later, giving them their first lead at 6-5. The Merchants added runs on a wild pitch, passed ball and another wild pitch to go up 9-5. A Jordan Matthewson doubled started the 7th inning, scoring Garrett Freeman, who scored on the throw, Kaleb Freeman doubled to score Matthewson and the rout was on. Andrew Schroeder added to the lead with an RBI single, making it 12-5 still in the 7th.
Jordan Matthewson finished the game 3-4 with a double and triple along with scoring 3 times. Kaleb Freeman had a pair of hits with 2 runs batted in and he scored twice. Andrew Schroeder scored 3 times and got on base 3 times. Seth Christian had a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs. Blake Nell pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 5. Zach Nelson threw 2 1/3 innings with 6 strikeouts.
The Merchants host Jefferson City for a doubleheader on Sunday.
