Girls Individual Regional Tennis Results Wednesday, May 11th
Audubon and Kuemper At Atlantic
Samantha Tidgren of Kuemper advances to the State Tennis Tournament in Iowa City after winning the individual championship at the Regional meet at Atlantic on Wednesday. Tidgren swept through her matches to advance to the finals against Lanee Olsen of Lewis Central. The Knights had a good day overall, with Jordan Schwabe taking 3rd in singles and Alyssa Brant and Sophie Rohe taking 3rd in doubles. Ella Schwarte and Keziah Janssen of Kuemper advanced to the quarterfinals in doubles before falling.
Audubon saw their season come to an end, falling in both singles and doubles in their opening matches. Geralyn Anderson fell in her match to Kaitlyn Zugay of Ballard who finished 4th and Jill Denny lost to Ella Patterson of Boone. Patterson would fall to Jordan Schwabe of Kuemper in the semifinals. Jocelyn Chambers and Ava Slater of Audubon won their opening set in their first set, winning it 7-6 but fell 6-3 and the second set and 10-7 in the 10 point tie breaker. Audrey Jensen and Ava Petersen had a strong season but fell in the 1st round to Georgie Bohnet and Alexis Narmi of St Albert.
Tidgren of Kuemper won her first four sets to 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. She dropped her first game of the day but easily advanced into the finals with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kaitlyn Zugay of Ballard. Tidgren dropped the opening set in the finals 6-2 but recovered well to win the 2nd set 6-6 and 8-6 in the tie breaker to set up a 3rd set tie breaker to 10. Tidgren clinched the title with a 10-8 win in the tie breaker. Jordan Schwabe battled to tight wins in the first two rounds. She didn’t drop a set but won 7-5, 6-4 in the first round, then won easily in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. She suffered her first loss of the day in the semifinals but picked up a win in the 3rd place match over Ella Patterson of Boone. Alyssa Brant and Sophie Rohe swept through the first found and quarterfinals, winning 6-2, 6-2 then 6-1, 6-4. The pair battled in the semifinals before falling to Allison Narmi and Landry Miller of St Albert. They bounced back strong to finish 3rd with a 8-2 win over Georgie Bohnet and Alexis Narmi of St Albert. Ella Schwarte and Keziah Janssen went 2-1 in matches, falling in the quarterfinals. They dropped their first set in both of their wins before rallying to win both matches, taking the tie breaker round 10-8 in the preliminary round and 12-10 in the first round.
