Kuemper rallied from down 1-0 at half, using the wind at their back in the 2nd half to pick up a nice road win on Monday. The Kuemper defense battled hard all match in front of Ashlyn Badding, who finished with 14 saves, keeping the Knights in striking distance. Vanessa Borelli was outstanding in rotating over and covering the middle. Borelli was instrumental in containing Bella Munoz, slowing down the Wolverines attack. Lauren Boell and Frannie Glynn were also very strong on the defensive end.
The Kuemper offense got going in the 2nd half, finishing the match with 15 shots on goal. They struck at the 23:00 mark of the 2nd half when Catherine Mayhall chased down a nice pass from Karigan Wendl, who looped the ball over the defense, allowing Mayhall to get a one-on-one with the goalie. Mayhall scored on a nifty cross from left to right. Wendl gave Kuemper the lead with 6:00 left. Mayhall started this goal with a corner kick that Lauren Boell gained control off and dumped it off to Wendl who attacked from near the 25-yard line. Her kick was able to slip past the goalie for the leading goal and what turned into the game winner.
Catherine Mayhall led the Knights with 8 shots on goal, followed by Kenya Prescott with 3 shots and Lauren Boell with 2 shots on goal. Ashlyn Badding added 14 saves.
