Kuemper At Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament At Red Oak-Doubles Tournament

Kuemper sits in 6th place after the doubles portion of the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament held in Red Oak at the YMCA. The Knights collected 6 points, finishing in 7th place in number 1 doubles and 5th place in number 2 doubles.

Jared Hausman and Josh Langel teamed up in number 1 doubles, going 3-2 in matches and 30-27 in  games. They won their opening round match 8-5 to advance to the quarterfinals. They fell 8-2 in the quarterfinals but bounced back nicely to win their opening round consolation match 8-3. A second loss on the day dropped them into the 7th place match where they won 8-3.

Hans Kraus and Max Reincke went 4-1 in matches, finishing in 5th place. They went 38-18 in games. Kraus and Reincke won their opening match 8-3 but fell in the quarterfinals in a tight 8-6 loss to eventual champion Paul Schlachter and Dylan Gray of Shenandoah. The duo did a nice job bouncing back from the loss, winning their next three matches, including a rematch with Bryan York and Easton O’Brien of Atlantic in the 5th place match. Hans and Reincke had defeated them 8-3 in the opening round and won 8-2 in the 5th place match.

The Knights will return to Red Oak on Tuesday for the singles portion of the conference tournament with Sam Janssen in number 1 singles. He is seeded 5th and will play Nathan Brown of Clarinda in the quarterfinals. They have not met this season. Jake Hausman is seeded 8th in number 2 singles and will open with Brett Erickson of Red Oak in the opening round. They didn’t match up in the Knights 8-1 win over Red Oak on April 11th. Erickson picked up the Tigers only win in the match, beating Jared Hausman 8-2. Play is scheduled to begin at 9:30. They will play outside if possible but will probably start play in the YMCA.
