Audubon had one of their nicer days weather-wise to compete in as they hosted Atlantic and came away with some solid playing. Despite Atlantic coming away victorious at the end of the day by winning six of nine matches, Audubon brought the heat by going 33-42 in singles and 19-22 in doubles. Audrey Jensen says she was able to get a good practice in before her singles match, where she faced some back and forth with Addie Schmitt. She hit some balls that went baseline or were close to it and cleaned up those hits for an 8-6 win. Jill Denny was able to keep her pace up all match long and came away with an 8-3 win. Jocelyn Chambers had the longest match in singles as Keira Olsen from Atlantic would not go down without a fight. Chambers did all she could, but Olsen pulled away with a close 9-7 win. Ava Slater and Gery Anderson both also had close singles matches that just did not go their way, losing 8-4 and 8-5 respectively.
In doubles, Audrey Jensen and Kya Petersen played a solid match from start to finish. Just like in their singles matches, there was plenty of back and forth between the duo teams, but after some adjustments on the fly, the Audubon duo pulled out the 8-5 win. Denny and Anderson both went to the wire with the Atlantic duo Malenda Woodward and Rio Johnson, but ultimately were unable to close out the match and lost 9-8.
The Wheelers continue their week of competition when they travel to take on Kuemper on Thursday, April 28th.
