It was a defensive battle on a cold and windy night as East Sac scored a pair of goals in the 1st half on their way to their first home win of the season. Kuemper tied the match in the 1st half and tried to keep the pressure on late but the Raiders defense was very good at stalling any Kuemper penetration, keeping the ball near the sidelines and using the out of bounds to chew clock. East Sac out shoot the Knights 8-5. The win improves the Raiders to 1-1 while the Knights fall to 0-2.
Sam Schmitt found Elias Aragon with a nice crosser at 30:03 in the 1st half, putting the Raiders up 1-0. The lead didn’t last long as Kuemper got pressure on the Raiders defense and East Sac punched the ball into their own goal. Ethan Fitzhenry was credited with the tying goal at 27:34. It stayed tight the rest of the fist half with both teams missing a couple scoring opportunities. Aragon put the Raiders up for good with a goal at 13:35. The Raiders led 2-1 at half.
The second half was a dominated by the defenses with Nick Crabb of East Sac and Jace Pruitt of Kuemper playing well in goal and getting plenty of help from their defenses. Both teams had limited shots on goal due to very good defensive pressure in a very physical game.
Elias Aragon had both the Raiders goals on 3 shots on goal. Isaiah Aragon and Sam Schmitt each had a pair of shots on goal and Nick Crabb finished with 7 saves.
Ethan Fitzhenry scored the lone Kuemper goal while DJ Vonnahme led the Knights with 2 shots on goal. Jace Pruitt added 4 saves.
The Raiders host West Sioux on Tuesday. The Knights host Treynor on Thursday.
