Kuemper was able to keep the pressure on East Sac on Tuesday, especially in the 2nd half, out shooting the Raiders 26-8 as the Knights notched their first win of the season. The Raiders battled hard on defense but gave up three goals in the 2nd half as they fell to 1-2 on the season.
Catherine Mayhall had a corner kick that found Kenya Prescott, who was able to bring the ball down and scored to give Kuemper a 1-0 lead with 23:06 left in the 1st half. Kuemper had a few more chances to score and build on the lead but Aleisha Thayer was solid in the goal with help out front from Hannah Pudenz. The Raiders tied the game at 1 when Kenna Meyer got free on a break out and scored at 19:07. It stayed tied until late in the half when Karly Baumhover began her big night for Kuemper. Baumhover made a nifty pass to Catherine Mayhall who scored to put Kuemper ahead with 6:07 left in the half.
Baumhover scored the first of her two goals early in the 2nd half, giving the Knights a 3-1 lead with 29:49 left. Kuemper controlled the ball most of the 2nd half, wearing down a East Sac team that only had one substitute available. Karly Baumhover picked up her second assist with 20:04 left, finding Kora Thomsen in front of the net. Thomsen’s goal put Kuemper up 4-1. Baumhover wrapped up the scoring, dribbling a ball into the net with 2:01 left.
Karly Baumhover finished with 2 goals and a pair of assists for Kuemper. Catherine Mayhall added a goal and an assist. Kenya Prescott scored a goal and led Kuemper with 8 shots on goal. Ashlyn Badding didn’t have a busy night in goal but played well, finishing with 6 saves.
Kenna Meyer scored a goal on 4 shots for East Sac. Wilma Roneus added 3 shots on goal and Aleisha Thayer had 17 saves before leaving the match late.
Kuemper travels to Creston on Thursday. East Sac goes to Harlan on Monday.
