The Kuemper Knights used a 12-0 start and a huge rebounding game to get passed Union in the State Quarterfinals on Wednesday. It was the opening round for 2A and Kuemper came in as the 1 seed with Union as the 8 seed. It was a rematch of last years substate final where Union would upset Kuemper. Kuemper came out hot with Griffin Glynn, Ryan Clair, Dylan Schon and Teddy Perkins all scoring in the opening minutes to lead 12-0 early. They would spring board that into a 19-2 start with a bucket from Jack Badding. Kuemper led 23-9 after 1 with all 5 of their starters scoring in the first quarter. Dylan Schon than opened up the second with a bucket but Union kept themselves in it with a little run to trail 35-23 at the halftime break. Union made it feel like they were in the game the full length but Kuemper maintained anywhere between a 12-20 point lead the entire second with their largest being 24 points with 5 minutes to go. Kuemper was able to pick up the 70-54 win and avenge a loss to end last year. The Knights now await the winner of Grundy Center and Treynor for a Semifinal matchup at 5:30 on KIK 106.7.
