Kuemper fell in a heartbreaking state final to Unity Christian on Friday. Kuemper came in #1 and Unity #2 and it was a great game all around with plenty of moments to remember. Unity dominated early with plenty of offensive firepower and Kuemper struggled as they turned the ball over 4 times to start and fell behind 12-0 early. Griffin Glynn was able to get to the line to put the Knights on the board while Ryan Clair had their next 4 as Kuemper trailed 19-8 after 1. Kuemper came out much more settled in with their own flurry of offense including buckets from Dylan Schon and Ryan Clair as they pulled within 3 at 23-20 after a Glynn deep range bucket. Kuemper mounted a little run which got them the 32-31 lead before a miracle shot by Unity fell to give them a 34-32 lead going into the halftime break. Griffin Glynn came out and tied the game for Kuemper before Jack Badding got fouled and hit some free throws to put Kuemper up 35-34. The Knights would hold onto a lead all the way until the end of the 3rd. Unity came out and regained the lead at 48-46 before Griffin Glynn got a bucket to regain a 49-48 lead. Unity once again got the leas at 50-49 with a tough bucket. They would go on a 9-0 run to open the 4th before a Teddy Perkins huge three cut it to four and made Kuemper have some confidence. Kuemper struggled late with fouls and they trailed with 30 seconds left but some missed shots and a Glynn three put Kuemper down 3 with 15 seconds to play. Kuemper fouled Dylan Brosma who was shooting above 80% from the line and he missed two. Kuemper raced down and called timeout with 7 seconds. Inbounds went to Glynn who shot a fadeaway three that came up short and went out of bounds. Unity threw the inbound down and won by a score of 67-64. Kuemper ends the year 24-4 with one impressive year. Plenty of great seniors graduate but a great future for the Knights.
