Carroll nearly pulled off the upset of the tournament with a gritty, gutty effort against top ranked Ballard in the Class 3A Semifinals on Wednesday evening. The Tigers started slowly, trailing 18-5 at the end of the 1st quarter and by as many as 20 in the 1st half. They never quit, the defense clamped down, the offense found a rhythm and the Tigers outscored Ballard 21-9 in the 4th quarter and had a chance, down two with 0:04.6 left. Carroll hit 7-10 shots in the 4th quarter, going 2-4 from deep while Ballard struggled against the Tigers pressure. Ballard didn’t score from the field for the final 4:47 and struggled from the free throw line, going 1-8 in the final stanza. The Bombers edged ahead by 17 early in the 4th but Carroll used a 14-3 run to get back into the game. The Tigers scored 19 of the final 23-points but ran out of time.

Ballard built a 14-0 lead as Carroll turned it over eight times in the 1st quarter and struggled to get open looks. Ballard was able to get on the break, getting layups and open looks from deep. Jared Mohr put the Tigers on the board with a three with 2:18 left in the 1st quarter. Jake Jorgensen added a pair of free throws, making it 14-5. Ballard closed the quarter on a 4-0 run and led 18-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. Jared Mohr was huge for Carroll all game and opened the 2nd quarter with a bucket, trying to pull the Tigers close. Ballard went up 23-9 before Landon Petersen hit a bucket and Mac Collison pulled Carroll within 26-13. The Bombers responded with a 7-0 run, grabbing their largest lead at 33-13. Trey Tassell snapped it with a three, but Carroll trailed 35-19 at half.

The game was physical in the 1st half, but it got tighter right away in the 3rd quarter with several quick fouls. Carroll took advantage with Jared Mohr hitting a free throw, then scoring a bucket, making it 35-22. Ballard kept the lead in double figures, though Lual Tharjiath pulled Carroll within 44-34 with just under 2:00 left in the 3rd. Tharjiath had to check out, and Ballard closed the quarter on a 4-0 run and led 48-34 entering the 4th quarter. Lual Tharjiath had a nice bucket inside to start the 4th but the Bombers went on a 5-0 run and led 53-36. Jared Mohr hit a three, then scored inside to pull the Tigers within 56-41. Trey Tassell drained a three and things began to get interesting. Tassell added a pair of free throws a few moments later and Carroll was within 56-48. Lual Tharjiath scored to pull Carroll within 56-50. After Ballard added a free throw, Landon Petersen made a tough shot for Carroll and Jared Mohr added a free throw, making it 57-53. Ballard kept missing free throws, going 1-8 in the 4th quarter. They missed two more and Carroll had a chance. Jared Mohr got the ball near the left block and was hit from behind in the air, hitting the shot, but only 0:4.6 remained. He went to the line and Evan Abbott grabbed the rebound, throwing it to the other end of the floor, running the clock out.

Jared Mohr had a team high 20-points and 10 rebound to lead the Tigers, adding 3 assists and 3 steals. Lual Tharjiath had 12-points and 6 rebounds, Trey Tassell finished 8-points and 7 rebounds. Mac Collison had 7-points and 3 steals.

Carroll ended the season 21-6.
