The Ar-We-Va, Coon Rapids Bayard, and Glidden Ralston baseball teams closed out the 2022 season with athletes who were some of the best in the Rolling Valley Conference.
Coon Rapids Bayard continued to dominate the conference. finished second behind CAM Anita, recording 23 wins and playing well in their substate semifinal against Tri-Center. One athlete that had a standout year was Cal Heydon who finished in the top five in multiple categories, including third in the conference in batting averages with a .454, tied for second in RBIs with 40, and tied for third in doubles with 11 on the season. Easton Hays was another Crusader that was one of the best in the Rolling Valley with the best ERA at 0.88, WHIP at 0.83, and second in wins on the hill with six. While the Crusaders were a senior-heavy team, they look to bring back plenty of talent to compete well in 2023.
The Ar-We-Va Rockets had a similar look this season with many talented seniors. Will Ragaller and Cooper Kock were two of those seniors that made an impact this season. Ragaller finished tied for eighth in the conference with a .407 batting average, first in hits allowed with 10, and fourth in opponent batting average with .108. Kock’s year included finishing second in triples with three, fifth in opponents batting average with .110, and tied for seventh with wins on the hill with four.
Glidden Ralston’s Mark Lensch continued to improve in his sophomore season. Among his conference counterparts, he tied for second in hits allowed on the hill with 11, fifth in fielding percentage with .981, and eighth in putouts with 101. The Wildcats will graduate two seniors and will return a good portion of their players from this season into the 2023 season.
