Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Beckman Catholic Advances to Class 2A Semifinals with Close 7-4 Victory over Dike New Hartford Tuesday

Dike New Hartford tried to come back late against Beckman Catholic, but the Trailblazers were able to stay ahead of the Wolverines in the Class 2A Quarterfinals. 

The Trailblazers were first on the board with a runner scored in the first inning. Nick Schmidt got a sac fly that scored Nate Offerman to give them the 1-0 early lead. Dike New Hartford was able to keep up with Beckman Catholic with a sac RBI from Ian Steffen to score Colin Meester and tie up the game at 1-1. In the second inning, Beckman Catholic kept their bats alive with two runs scored, both of them were able to steal home and extend their lead to 3-1. After both teams didn’t add any runs in the third, Dike New Hartford got back on track and tied the game again at 3-3. Gus Varney was able to smack a two RBI single to score Devon Kollasch and Steffen. 

The Trailblazers continued to be one step ahead of the Wolverines, getting another two runners home in the fourth and fifth innings. Luke Sigwarth and Nick Schmidt both got RBIs in the fourth while Nate Offerman and Owen Huehnergarth got RBIs in the fifth to lift Beckman Catholic to a 7-3 lead. There was hope for Dike New Hartford in the sixth when Kollasch got home off a passed ball to cut down the Beckman Catholic lead to 7-4. 

Both offenses were able to get plenty of hits, with Beckman Catholic getting 13 hits and Dike New Hartford recording 11. The Trailblazers had three pitchers on the mound with Nick Schmidt pitching the most. He had three and two-thirds innings of work where he allowed seven hits, two earned runs, and recorded five strikeouts. The Wolverines had two on the hill with Carson Costello pitching four innings, allowing nine hits, four earned runs, and one strikeout. 

Dike New Hartford had one final shot to tie up the game in the top of the seventh inning. After a strikeout and a pop fly to the Trailblazer shortstop, the Wolverines got Costello on first and later to second off a passed ball. The final out from Beckman Catholic was a strikeout to Michah Walston to lift the Trailblazers past the Wolverines by a final score of 7-4. 

Dike New Hartford’s season comes to an end with a final record of 26-4. Beckman Catholic awaits the winner of Kuemper vs Van Meter in the Class 2A Semifinals.
