Kaleb Freeman drove in Michael Alt in the 1st inning with a fly ball to left field. Alt singled to get on base and stole a base to get into scoring position. The lead didn’t last long with Chillicothe tying the game and taking a lead in the top 2nd inning. An RBI single tied the game and the Mudcats went up 2-1 on a single to right field. The game remained 2-1 for Chillicothe until the 7th inning when the Mudcats added an unearned runs. The Merchants responded in their half of the 7th. Hunter Reid doubled to right field, scoring Danny Schweitzer and Kyle Berg. Schweitzer’s run came on a Mudcat error allowing Carroll to tie the game at 3. A Mudcat doubled scored the go ahead run in the 8th, allowing them to send the Merchants to their second straight loss.
The loss drops Carroll to 16-14 and they still lead Des Moines by a 1 1/2 for 3rd place. The Merchants travel to Clarinda on Saturday.
