Titans battled hard, forcing the Wolverines to get contributions from other players than their stars in the quarterfinal round matchup Tuesday evening. The Titans trimmed an 18-point deficit in the 2nd quarter to 6 late in the 3rd but the defending champions had too much in the 4th quarter and pulled away for the win. South Central Calhoun did a nice job helping with their post defense, but struggled to keep the Wolverines off the boards, giving up 22 offensive rebounds. That helped a Wolverine team that struggled from the floor at 39% outshoot the Titans 64 to 40. South Central Calhoun handled the Wolverine full court pressure but struggled early against the Wolverine quickness in the halfcourt, turning the ball over 20 times in the game with 12 in the 1st half.
Dike-New Hartford hit a three by Camile Landphair to open the game, but Kylee Schleisman answered with a three on the other end. That was the first of her three-threes in the game. The Titans were down 9-3 but Chloe Judisch hit a jumper to pull them within 9-5. the Wolverines closed out the 1st quarter on a 6-1 run, extending that run to 19-5 midway through the 2nd quarter to lead 28-10. South Central Calhoun was defending Peyton Petersen in the post, but Jadyn Petersen was effective on the glass, finishing the 1st half with 8 points and 6 rebounds. With the Titans down 28-10, Kylee Schleisman who finished with 8 assists found Rylie Batta for a basket. Batta was fouled on the play and made the free throw. The Wolverine lead was down to 15 and South Central Calhoun looked energized. Batta, who hadn’t scored until the middle part of the 2nd quarter, finished with 7 points in the final 3:30 of the 1st half. Schleisman hit Batta for another layup inside and the Titans were down 28-15. A Sayer Steig layup pulled within 28-19. The lead, once 18 was down to 10, 31-21 at half.
Dike-New Hartford scored first in the 2nd half, but Riley Batta found Emma Anderson for a bucket and the Titans pulled within 8. The lead hovered around 8-11 for a few minutes, until Addisyn Korleski scored to pull the Titans within 36-27, that was followed by a Korleski pass to Kylee Schliesman, pulling the Titans within 36-30. The Titans had the momentum, but Maryn Bixby answered for Dike-New Hartford, hitting the first of her four-threes in the rest of the game. The Wolverines extended the lead to 13 but Kylee Schleisman hit an off-balanced covered three to close the quarter and South Central Calhoun was down 45-35 heading to the 4th quarter. Payton Petersen scored to start the 4th quarter for Dike-New Hartford and then Bixby hit another three. Before you knew it the lead had grown to 17, at 52-35. The Titans continued to battle but never got closer than 17 the rest of the game.
Kylee Schleisman had a terrific game with 11 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Riley Batta ended with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Chloe Judisch added 6 points and 4 rebounds. Addisyn Korleski finished with 5 points and 5 rebounds.
The Titans finish the season 19-6 overall.
