Carroll Vs Denison Schleswig At Atlantic- Class 3A Sub-State 8 Final
Carroll 74
Denison Schleswig 55
Defense, rebounding and hunger helped lift the Carroll Tigers to a dominating win over Denison Schleswig in the Class 3A Sub-State 8 final. Carroll harassed the Monarchs, finishing with 13 steals and forcing the Monarchs into numerous turnovers. Carroll transitioned from defense to offense very well, turning the Monarchs mistakes into buckets. The lead was 5 after the 1st quarter, then Carroll quickly extended it to double digits, going up 26-15 midway through the 2nd quarter. They were aggressive going to the rim, attacking the taller Monarchs with tremendous success. Defensively the Tigers kept Denison Schleswig from getting anything going inside. Every time Denison Schleswig fed the ball inside, Carroll collapsed, stripping the ball away, or forcing contested shots. Denison Schleswig tried to make a run to start the 3rd quarter, but Carroll answered, extending the halftime lead to 13 on a Nick Macke three, assisted by Ethan Lengeling. A Macke reverse layup made it 14 moments later, and Carroll looked to be on their way.

Denison Schleswig scored first on a lob pass from Charlie Wiebers to Lance Arkfeld at the rim. Kaleb Booth answered on the other end tying the game at 2. The Monarchs went back up 4-2, Booth found Evan Hammer tying the score at 4. A Nick Macke free throw gave Carroll their first lead, 5-4. They would never trail again. The game was only tied once more, when Denison Schleswig hit a three, tying the game at 7. Carroll responded with an 11-3 run, going up 18-10. The Monarch hung tough for a bit in the 2nd quarter, pulling within 21-15. That would be as close as they would get. Kaleb Booth drained a three, making it 24-15, then found Tanner Gotto for a bucket and free throw, extending the lead to 27-15. Booth added a pair of free throws and Caden Kock dished it to Evan Hammer inside for a 31-29 lead. Denison Schleswig made it 31-21 going into the half, but Carroll was in control.
The 2nd half started similar to the first with Denison Schleswig scoring first. Carroll put the game away on buckets by Caden Kock, and a Nick Macke three off a pass from Ethan Lengeling, giving them a 36-23 lead. Carroll kept the pressure on in the 3rd quarter, never letting the Monarchs pull within ten. Three free throws from Kaleb Booth put Carroll up 14, moments later Booth made it 16 at 45-29. Carroll was up 52-35 heading to the 4th quarter on a bucket by Evan Hammer. Carroll extended the lead to 21 early in the 4th quarter, then built it to 23 in the final minutes.
Kaleb Booth led the offensive attack with 24 points and 8 assists, several of those were nifty no look passes to Tigers near the bucket. Caden Kock had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals but may have made his presence known the most, just getting his hands on the ball so many times, keeping Denison Schleswig from getting possession. Evan Hammer added 12 points and 3 block shots and Nick Macke scored 11 points to go with 5 rebounds.
Carroll moved to 16-8 on the season. The Tigers advance to the State Tournament for the first time since 2010. At the time this article was published the Carroll quarterfinal round game next Tuesday had not been posted. Carroll Broadcasting will have coverage of the game on 93.7 KKRL.
