Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: 13 Area Wrestlers Advance to State Meet

District Wresting Results Saturday, February 12th 

Carroll At Glenwood-Class 2A District 2

Carroll continues to impress this season after winning their first sectional title since the 1988-1989 season, they returned to action with six guys at the district meet in Glenwood. They advanced four  wrestlers to the State Meet with one champ and three runner-ups. Carroll finished in2nd place as a team, edging Clarinda 77 to 72. Atlantic won the meet with 124 points. Carroll finished the day going 9-5 with four wins by fall, four by decision and one major decision.

Carter Drake was the Tigers champion at 138. He went 2-0 with a win by fall in the semifinals and won 7-0 in the finals. Dreylen Schweitzer at 106 advanced to the finals with a win by decision. He lost in the finals and didn’t have to wrestle back, finishing 2nd at 1-1. Cael Nelson at 120 advanced to the finals with a win by decision, then lost by tech fall in the finals. Nelson had to wrestle for 2nd place and won by fall to advance to State as a runner-up. Sterling Rodman was the other runner-up for Carroll, taking 2nd at 170. Rodman won by major decision in the semifinals before losing by fall in the finals. He bounced back to win his 2nd place match 6-1, finishing 2-1. Jireh Gallegos went 1-1 at 145 but didn’t get a chance to wrestle for 2nd place. He lost his semifinals match by decision then won his 3rd place match by fall. Colton Weiland at 285 lost in the semifinals by fall, bounced back to win his 3rd place match by fall, finishing 1-1 with no chance to wrestle for 2nd place.

East Sac, Kuemper and South Central Calhoun At West Monona- Class 1A District 8

All three of the area teams in West Monona are sending someone to State with South Central Calhoun advancing three, Kuemper four and East Sac one. The Titians finished 3rd as a team with 60 points, collecting two champions and a runner-up. Kuemper has four runner-ups, scoring 51 points, finishing 5th and East Sac had a champion, finishing 10th with 26 points.

South Central Calhoun finished the meet 6-4 with three wins by fall, two by major decision and one by sudden victory.  Kuemper went 6-6 in matches, winning four by decision, one by fall and one by major decision.  East Sac was 3-2 in matches, with a win by fall and two by decision.

Blake McAlister and Jayden Soard were champions for South Central Calhoun. Soard went 2-0 with both wins by fall. He defeated Cal Wanninger of Kuemper in the finals. McAlister at 170, won by fall in his semifinal match, then won the finals by major decision. Zachary Trott went 1-1 at 138, winning his semifinal by major decision, then losing by fall in the finals to finish 2nd. Kevin King went 1-1 at 160, losing in the semifinals by decision, then winning his 3rd place match by sudden victory 1 but not getting to wrestle back, finishing 3rd. Brock Nattress went 0-2, losing by decision in both matches.

Riley Parkis at 120, Jake Irlbeck at 145, Shae Parkis at 152 and Cal Wanninger at 220 were all runner-ups. Riley Parkis went 1-1 with a win by decision in the semifinals. He lost by fall in the finals but didn’t have to wrestle back, finishing in 2nd place. Jake Irlbeck went 2-1, winning by decision in the semifinals, losing by major decision in the finals but winning his 2nd place match by decision. Shae Parkis also went 2-1 with a win by major decision in the semifinals and a win by fall in his 2nd place match, after he lost by major decision in the finals. Cal Wanninger went 1-1, advancing into the finals with a decision, he lost to Jayden Soard of South Central Calhoun in the finals by fall. Brayden Riesberg went 0-2, losing both his matches at 195 by fall.

Charlie Veit of East Sac won a championship at 132, winning both his matches by decision, including the 1st place match 8-2. Bradyn Burns lost by fall in the semifinals, but bounced back to win his 3rd place match by fall. He finished 1-2 with a loss in the 2nd place match by tech fall.

Audubon At Underwood- Class 1A District 6

Cooper Nielsen was the lone wrestler for Audubon and he advances to State as a district champion. Nielsen went 2-0 at 220 with both of his wins by fall. He won his finals match in 1:24.
