Kaleb Booth and the Carroll Tigers had a big scoring night Tuesday as they were able to knock off Bondurant Farrar and head into the holiday break with some momentum.

The Tigers and Bluejays were at a standstill after the first quarter concluded tied at 17 points apiece. The Tigers continued to pick up the momentum in the second quarter as they’d outpace the Bluejays 20-14 and take a close lead of 37-31 into halftime. Kaleb Booth had one of his biggest performances of the year against the Bluejays, ending the night with an outstanding 35 points, along with three rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

The biggest quarter for both teams happened in the third quarter where Carroll scored 24 points, only slightly outmatched by Bondurant Farrar scoring 26 points, cutting down that Tiger lead to 61-57 going into the final eight minutes of the game. Continuing to ride the scoring momentum of Booth, the Tigers were able to hold on to their lead that was threatened to be taken over by Bondurant Farrar, and ultimately come away with the 76-73 win over the Bluejays.

This win will elevate the Tigers to 3-4 overall on the season and 2-3 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll’s first game following the holiday break will see them at home on Tuesday, January 4th against Boone.

St Albert At Kuemper

Kuemper 62

St Albert 56

Kuemper got early buckets from Nate Overmohle, Dawson Gifford and Isaac Evans as they built an early lead on St Albert. The Knights led 19-10 after the 1st quarter, thanks in part to their ability to pound the ball inside with Evans and DJ Vonnahme. Those two and Dawson Gifford did a nice job attacking the rim and getting Alex Gast into foul trouble. That opened things up in the lane as Kuemper struggled to knock down outside shots. They finished 2-19 from three and hit 21-39 from the free throw line.

Defensively they played well in the 1st half, forcing the Falcons to force shots. DJ Vonnahme fed Isaac Evans for a bucket early in the 2nd quarter and Kuemper was off and running. They built a 43-28 lead late in the half, but St Albert closed the half with 4 straight and the lead was 11 at half.

DJ Vonnahme found Isaac Evans again to start the 2nd half to put Kuemper up 45-32. The lead didn’t last long as St Albert fought back, cutting the deficit to 46-43 late in the 3rd quarter. Carson Kanne only made one basket, but he hit a crucial three that stemmed the tide and put Kuemper up 49-43. The lead was 51-47 heading into the 4th quarter. Kuemper never gave up the lead though St Albert pulled within 52-49. DJ Vonnahme sparked the Knights with a bucket and an assist to Isaac Evans and Kuemper was back up 56-49. The Falcons cut the lead to four twice in the final couple minutes, but Dawson Gifford hit free throws down the stretch, finishing 10-12 for the game.

Dawson Gifford and Isaac Evans each had 17 points with Evans adding 9 rebounds and Gifford 11 rebounds and 5 steals. DJ Vonnahme had 13 points along with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Evan Adams added 8 rebounds off the bench and Nate Overmohle had 7 rebounds.

The Knights closed out the schedule before the break winning 4 of their last 5 to improve to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference.

South Central Calhoun 69

MVAO-COU 37

South Central Calhoun completed a successful first half of the 2021-2022 season with a strong win over MVAO-COU to extend their win streak to eight games.

The Titans got out quickly in this game with a strong first half, and specifically first quarter. South Central Calhoun got out 28-10 in the first quarter and further extended that lead to 51-16 after the first half concluded. This was thanks to all of their players getting some sort of playing time and all getting at least a stat recorded on the stat sheet. Joshua Dietrich, Tyler Lightner, and Eli Wheelock were the biggest players on this Titans team, with Lightner leading the team with 18 points and six assists, and Dietrich grabbing three steals and a team high five blocks.

In the second half, the Titans tapered off from their high scoring as they’d go 15-7 in the third quarter and finished off the game losing the fourth quarter 14-3. But, thanks to their impressive performance in the first half, the Titans were able to easily get past MVAO-COU by a final score of 69-37. The Titans will improve to 8-0 overall on the season and 3-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. Following the holiday break, the Titans will return to action with a non-conference game at home against OA-BCIG on Tuesday, January 4th.

The Audubon Wheelers grabbed a nice conference win to close out the first half of the season against LoMa Tuesday night.

Audubon was able to widen that scoring gap a significant amount in the second quarter as they went 19-13 over LoMa and took a 31-23 lead into halftime. Audubon Head Coach Coleman Mullenix says he was impressed with Collin Bauer’s performance. Bauer ended the game with 19 points overall, which led the team.

The Big Reds were able to match the intensity of the Wolves in the second quarter and keep the game within six points. Southeast Valley at East Sac

Southeast Valley 58

East Sac 42

East Sac had a chance to grab a victory to close out the first half of the 2021-2022 season, but Southeast Valley used strong attacks to the basket and plenty of passing to get past the Raiders Tuesday night.

The Raiders in the first half were able to keep close with Southeast Valley and their scoring in the paint. Weston Drost led the charge with a three pointer along with Tyler Schmitt who had three points in the first quarter. Southeast Valley’s Kolson Kruse was dangerous from behind the arc, as he drained two easy three pointers in the first quarter, which allowed the Jaguars to take a 16-12 lead into the second quarter. The three-point game for Southeast Valley opened up even further as they made four three-pointers in that quarter alone, three coming from Kruse. While Southeast Valley tried to stuff the middle and stop Schmitt from scoring, he still found ways to score in the paint, grabbing eight points in the second quarter. The Jaguars held onto their lead going into halftime at 36-28.

Both teams had a difficult time in the third quarter as Southeast Valley shifted to a more passive offense filled with passing and careful shots, while East Sac was trying to score often and grab the lead. Both teams left the third quarter with seven points added to their totals and Caleb Eichorn leading the Raiders with three points in that quarter. The Jaguars still had the lead at 43-35 going into the fourth quarter. Schmitt in the final eight minutes of play was the lone player to score points as Southeast Valley continued to run out the clock while taking chances to score inside the paint and take more three-point attempts. Schmitt scored seven points in the final quarter which included going four for four from the free throw line. The Jaguars completed the game with a 15-point fourth quarter and ultimately won 58-42 over the Raiders.

East Sac will fall to 2-6 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. Following the holiday break, the Raiders will return to action with a road game on Friday, January 7th against Emmetsburg.

Woodbine                56

Glidden Ralston     34

Glidden Ralston put together a nice second and third quarter performance, leaving some room to grow going into the holiday break as they fell to Woodbine Tuesday night.

Woodbine started off the night by one upping Glidden Ralston by a score of 11-5 after the first quarter concluded. Head Coach Tyler Shipley tells Carroll Broadcasting that his team came out flat to start off the game but started to come alive starting in the second quarter. The Wildcats were able to crack a double-digit quarter with an 11-point performance but were still behind Woodbine 27-16 at halftime. Coach Shipley says Cale Klocke and Carter Soyer were able to pick up the intensity and give the Wildcats chances to catch up to Woodbine’s lead.

Klocke and Soyer continued their work into the third quarter but were not able to fully bring the Wildcats close to Woodbine’s lead. The Tigers extended their sizable lead to 44-28 going into the fourth quarter. When it came to the fourth quarter, Coach Shipley said his guys battled on the boards and the game was pretty physical, but they struggled to contain Dylan Hoefer. Woodbine was able to slow down their game a bit and cruise to a 56-34 win over Glidden Ralston. Notable performances from the Wildcats include Klocke who ended the game with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal and Ethan Olberding who had seven points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
