Carroll advanced to the Substate Semifinal on Thursday with a comfortable win on Monday against Perry. The Tigers built a 13-0 lead and were never really challenged. The defense was good in the 1st half, allowing 19-points but still needed to fix a couple things says Head Coach Randy Bissen. Offensively, the Tigers shared the ball as well as they had all season. They had 17 assists, routinely making the extra pass for easy shot at the rim. The Tigers cut to the basket on the baseline several times for easy buckets. They were very effective on the break, after creating a lot of turnovers. The Tigers led 49-19 at half and were able to get everyone in the game in the 2nd half.
Trey Tassell opened the game with a three from the right corner and Carroll was off and running. Lual Tharjiath, ended the game with a career high, scored back-to-back baskets and Carroll led 7-0. Jared Mohr made a pair of free throws and Chase Schable made a bucket to put Carroll up 11-0. Lual Tharjiath added two more free throws and Carroll was up 13-0. Gustavo Drahos hit a three for Perry but Trey Tassell answered with a bucket. Tharjiath kept dominating in the 1st half scoreing four in a row and Carroll led 21-5. Back-to-back baskets from Jake Jorgensen and Mac Collison and Carroll was up 25-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. Lual Tharjiath and Trey Tassell scored to open the 2nd quarter and Carroll kept pouring it on, using great ball movement to get good looks. Tharjiath made it 35-11 and Mason Stitz hit a three as Carroll took their largest lead at 38-13. The lead kept growing with Chase Schable and Jared Mohr scoring back-to-back baskets, making it 43-16. Schable added a pair of layups and Carroll led 49-19 at half.
It took Carroll until the later part of the 3rd quarter to get the game into continuous clock. Mason Stitz hit 4-3’s in the game and gave Carroll a 58-22 lead late in the 3rd quarter. The Tigers were able to empty the bench with Tallon Crandall and Landin Hagen having a strong showing in the final few minutes of the game.
Lual Tharjiath had a team high 20-points, a career high, along with 3 blocks. Jared Mohr added 6-points with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Chase Schable had 13-points and Mason Stitz added 12-points and 5 rebounds.
Carroll improves to 18-5 on the season and will host Saydel on Thursday on KIKD 106.7.
