Kuemper fell in the Regional final to Des Moines Christian on Saturday evening. The production team at Des Moines Christian gets an A+ for presentation, as the atmosphere was enhanced by blue lights, spotlights, and music to start the night. Both teams were polar opposites as DMC was looking for a fourth straight state appearance while Kuemper was looking for their first since 2006. Both teams came out swinging: DMC was in a press while Kuemper had a zone, and DMC was not afraid to shoot the three-ball, attempting 41 threes during the game. DMC was able to pull away late in the first to lead 18-8. Both teams scored well in the second, but a one-point advantage for DMC would have them up 11 at halftime. DMC came out swinging in the third as a lot of their threes started to fall, and the defense was super tough for Kuemper to combat as a 22-5 quarter for DMC left them with plenty of separation. The Lions were able to pull out a 70-40 win at home. Kuempers season comes to a close at 17-6 with a regional final appearance and a second-place finish in the Hawkeye 10.
