It was a slow start for Kuemper but their offense got rolling in the 2nd quarter and they rolled to their fifth win of the season, moving to 2-0 in district play. They established the run game and got another big game from Brock Badding at quarterback, finding three different receivers for touchdowns, including Braxton Vonnahme twice. The defense was dominant most of the game and narrowly missed getting a shutout with SE Valley scoring late in the 4th quarter.
The game was tight in the 1st quarter with neither team able to capitalize on field possession or sustain a drive. The Knights finally broke through as they have done all season with a big pass play. Brock Badding hit Griffin Glynn for a 37-yard touchdown with 3:22 left in the 1st quarter and the Knights led 7-0. The Jaguars didn’t respond but Kuemper couldn’t get on track as the Jaguars defense was making stops. The flood gates opened midway through the 2nd quarter with Jarin Hoffman scoring on a 1-yard run with 7:32 left in the half. After a Kuemper stop, Hoffman broke free for a 75-yard touchdown, extending the Knights lead to 21-0 with 5:36 left in the half. They weren’t done yet, Brock Badding found Braxton Vonnahme for a 42-yard touchdown pass with 4:12 left in the half and Kuemper took a 28-0 lead into the half.
The Knights pushed the game into continuous clock in the 3rd as the defense kept creating turnovers. Brayton Alford forced a pair of fumbles and Kuemper made an interception. Kuemper stretched the lead after a turnover with Brock Badding finding Braxton Vonnahme fora 2-yard touchdown with 5:12 left in the 3rd. Their final score came with 7:30 left in the game with Brock Badding hitting Jarin Hoffman a 17-yard touchdown. SE Valley broke the shutout with a 21-yard touchdown with 0:49 left.
Jarin Hoffman ran for 180-yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries. He added a 17-yard touchdown catch. Brock Badding had 4 touchdown passes and 198-yards. Brayton Alford made 6 catches for 58-yards but made his biggest impact on defense. He made 11.5 tackles and forced a pair of fumbles. Griffin Glynn added 3 catches for 71-yards and a touchdown and Braxton Vonnahme had 4 catches with 2 going for touchdowns.
The Knights are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Class 2A District 2. They host Spirit Lake on Friday.
