Kuemper improved to 3-0 in the last two days, winning their Hawkeye 10 Conference opener on the road. The Knights improved as the match went on, getting Creston out-of-system frequently in the last two sets. They ended the match with eight blocks but were able to get quite a few touches, making it easier for the back row to play well with 75 digs in the match. That execution helped Elsa Tiefenthaler spread the ball around to her hitters with eight girls having a kill. They had five girls between four and eight kills. The Panthers held tight with Kuemper in the first set but the Knights controlled set two, then dominated the final set.
Brianna Wittrock led the offensive attack with 8 kills with Kolbi Peter and Mariah Heuton both had 6 kills, Addy Anthofer had 5 kills and Millie Anthofer added 4 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler dished out 29 assists to go with 15 digs. Kaylie Simons paced the back row with 18 digs, adding 5 assists. Mia Milligan had 12 digs, Brianna Wittrock had 10 digs and Sophie Lohrmann finished with 9 digs. Mia Milligan had a team high 2 ace and Mariah Heuton and Brianna Wittrock both had 3 blocks.
The Knights improved to 3-0 and will play Greene County and Ames in Ames on Tuesday.

Paton Churdan earned a sweep on Tuesday in their season opener, holding off late rallies by Collins Maxwell in sets one and two before rolling to a big win in set three. The Rockets served really well, keeping the Spartans out-of-system most of the match. They ended sets two and three with ace serves by Alivya Smith in set two and Edynn Smith in set three. They never trailed in set one and only trailed 1-0 in set two before building a 6-1 lead. Set three was similar as they fell down 1-0 but went on an 8-0 run to put it away early. The Rockets were up 8-1 in set one but Collins Maxwell clawed their way back into the set, pulling within 22-21 but Holly Miller had a kill, putting them up 23-21 and Maggie Reed had an ace to push it to 24-21. After grabbing a 6-1 lead in set two, the Rockets struggled, allowing the Spartans to tie the set at 7. The set was tied five more times but Paton Churdan did a nice job of not allowing Collins Maxwell take the lead. The final tie was at 16. Holly Miller had another big kill to give the Rockets the lead for good. Edynn Smith had an ace to push the lead to two but Collins Maxwell played within 18-17. Paton Churdan took charge with their serve down the stretch with Alivya Smith having three aces and Ella Tasler added a kill as they pulled away for a 25-17 win. Ella Tasler gave Paton Churdan a 3-1 lead in set three and Mia Russell had a kill. The Rockets got a kill from Kaliyan Minnihan and another from Mia Russell to lead 8-1. The Rockets didn’t allow the Spartans to claw back in and cruised to a 25-15 win.
Mia Russell had 4 kills and 7 aces with Alivya Smith adding 5 aces and three kills and Holly Miller adding four key kills.
The Rockets are 1-0 and travel to Storm Lake St Mary’s on Thursday.

The Titans faced a tough road test to open the season and fell a little short, falling in five sets at Ridge View. They battled hard all match, winning set one but falling in the next two sets. They had some chances to take control of the match but fell in tight second set. Ridge View took the momentum back after winning set two 25-21 to win set three, 25-13. South Central Calhoun fought back, this time winning a close fourth set. The Raptors built an early lead they wouldn’t relinquish in set five, winning 15-4.
The Titans were balanced at the net with Blair Schleisman and Sadie Wheelock both having 11 kills and Olivia Wiese adding 7 kills. Morgan McChesney led the back row with 10 digs, followed by Olivia Wiese with 9 digs and Blair Schleisman having 7 digs. Sydney Stuart had a team high 25 assists, doing a nice job spreading the ball around. Sadie Wheelock, Sydney Stuart and Olivia Wiese all having 2 aces.
The Titans are off until next Thursday as they host GTRA and Storm Lake St Mary’s.
