Minus about a minute stretch in the 1st quarter when Carroll turned the ball over a few straight possessions, leading to an 8-0 run, the Tigers controlled the game with Saydel. The defense was dominant, holding Saydel scoreless for nearly three minutes to start the game. The Tigers limited the Eagles offensive opportunities, controlling the backboards. The Carroll offense was nearly flawless early with great ball movement leading to open looks. Their spacing allowed them to dominate the offensive glass early, cleaning up nearly every miss they made. The Tigers led 11-0 minutes into the game, then responded to the Eagles 8-0 run by building a 20-12 1st quarter lead, then blowing the game open in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Saydel 22-8 to lead 42-20 at half. After an Eagle three to start the 2nd half, Carroll pushed the lead to 27 and kept it nearly 27-33 points into the 4th quarter before extending it to 35 points with under a minute remaining. The Tigers got contributions from every person on the roster on Monday, advancing to play at Storm Lake on Thursday.
Carter Essick gave Carroll the early lead with a pair of free throws and Jared Mohr scored back-to-back baskets, pushing the lead to 6-0. Mack Collison added to the lead and Stone Sibenaller hit the first of seven threes and Carroll led 11-0. Storm Lake turned the ball over on their first-five possessions, helping Carroll take control early. They clamped down on defense and Carroll turned the ball over three times in a row, leading to an 8-0 Eagle run. Carroll called a timeout and Stone Sibenaller silenced the Eagles with a three. After a pair of free throws from Miles Nuzback, Trey Tassell hit a three and Carroll led 20-12 at the end of the 1st quarter. Carter Essick scored to open the 2nd quarter for the Tigers and Stone Sibenaller pushed hte lead to 25-17 after Saydel had pulled within 22-17. Carroll used a 10-0 run to lead 32-17 after a bucket from Jared Mohr. Sibenaller added another three, building a 35-18 lead and Trey Tassell closed the half on a 7-0 run, closing the half with a three and Carroll was up 42-20.
Saydel had been held to one-three in the 1st half but hit a quick three to start the 2nd half. Carroll scored the next five with a three from Stone Sibenaller and a basket on a nice drive by Jared Mohr. Sibenaller hit another three and Carroll was in complete command, up 50-23. The game got a little sloppy in parts of the 3rd quarter but Carroll pushed the lead to 63-31 heading to the 4th quarter. Mac Collison hit a nifty runner on the baseline to end the 3rd as Carroll executed the end of quarter play to perfection. Lual Tharjiath was big for Carroll in the 4th quarter, blocking one shot with his elbow. He had 7 points, all in the final stanza.
Stone Sibenaller had a team high 21 points on seven made 3’s. Trey Tassell added 17 points with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Mac Collison finished with 9 points and 4 assists, Carter Essick had 8 points and 4 rebounds and Noah Hinners added 7 rebounds. Miles Nuzback had 7 rebounds with 3 steals.
Carroll improves to 10-12 on the season and heads to Storm Lake on Thursday on KIKD 106.7
