Glidden-Ralston at Coon Rapids-Bayard

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusades clinch a Rolling Valley Conference title as they knock off Glidden-Ralston at home. The Crusaders picked up their 16th win of the season. With the win, CRB went 13-1 in the RVC this season, winning the conference outright. CRB was able to jump out to an early lead as they forced multiple Glidden-Ralston turnovers. The Wildcats would trail CRB 24-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Crusaders would grow their lead in the second quarter to 41-10. The Wildcats struggled on the offensive end of the court in the first half. Coming out of the locker room, CRB would outscore Glidden-Ralston 13-8 in the third quarter. Coon Rapids-Bayard would go on to win the game 62-20.

The Crusaders had two players score in double figures. They were led by Malia Clayburg, who scored 18 points and added eight rebounds. Anna Hart recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. Hart also added seven steals. Ashtyn Klocke and Aubrey Hofbauer each chipped in nine points. Glidden-Ralston only had three girls score in the game. Kassidy Wenck recorded a team-high nine points. Olivia Squibb chipped in eight points.

With the win, Coon Rapids-Bayard moves to 16-4. The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday, February 18th, in the postseason against Storm Lake St. Marys’ or Glidden-Ralston. The loss drops the Wildcats to 6-14. Glidden-Ralston is back in action on Thursday at home against Storm Lake St. Mary’s.

The Paton Churdan Rockets dropped their 11th straight game as they fell on the road to Woodbine on Monday. The Rockets fell down early as they struggled with turnovers. PC would trail 21-2 at the end of the first quarter. Woodbine outscored Paton Churdan 22-8 in the second quarter. PC would trail 43-10 at the half. Woodbine would continue to grow their lead in the second half as they went on to beat Paton Churdan 62-22. The Rockets had four girls score in the game. Alivya Smith scored a team-high nine points in the loss. Kaliyah Minnihan chipped in eight points. With the loss, PC falls to 1-19. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday against St. Edmonds.

South Central Calhoun vs Sioux Central

The South Central Calhoun Titans played great on the defensive end but struggled to hit shots down the stretch of the game as they fell at home to Sioux Central. The first half was tight and low-scoring, as both defenses played great. Sioux Central would lead 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. South Central Calhoun was able to cut into the lead in the second quarter. The Titans would trail 22-20 at the half. Coming out of the locker room, Sioux Central would grow their lead as the Titans struggled to score the basketball. SCC would trail 36-31 going to the fourth quarter. Sioux Central outscored SCC in the fourth quarter 13-10 as they went on to win 49-41.

As a team, SCC shot 27 percent from the field. Bre Patterson led the Titans in scoring with 18 points. Patterson also added four steals. The Titans picked up 18 steals in the loss. Sadie Wheelick chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds for SCC. With the loss, the Titans fall to 9-11. SCC is back in action on Tuesday against East Sac County.

CAM At Ar-We-Va

CAM used pressure defense early to take command of the game, building a 23-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. Ar-We-Va battled, having a strong 2nd quarter on defense but struggled to get shots to fall all game. The Cougars led 33-10 at half, then held the Rockets scoreless in the 3rd quarter. 

Amber Ragaller hit an early three to pull Ar-We-Va within 4-3 but CAM went on a 9-0 run. After a Hallie McCollough offensive rebound and putback, the Cougars went on a 18-0 run to lead 31-5 late in the 2nd quarter. Azaya Martinez scored inside, Gabby Hundling hit a free throw and Michelle Mohr had an offensive rebound and putback, pulling Ar-We-Va within 31-10 but they trailed 33-10 at half. 

The Cougars were in control to start the 2nd half, the outscored Ar-We-Va 17-0 in the 3rd to push the game into continuous clock. They scored twenty-nine points in a row to start the 2nd half. Gabby Hundling scored five points late in the 4th for Ar-We-Va. 

Gabby Hundling led the Rockets with 6 points and 6 rebounds along with 4 steals. Azaya Martinez and Michelle Mohr both had 4 rebounds and Amber Ragaller had 3 points. 

The Rockets fall to 3-18 on the season and head to River Valley on Thursday to open postseason play on 93.7 KKRL.
