The Audubon Wheelers advance to the state quarterfinals in 8-man as they pick up a blowout win at home over Woodbine. The Wheelers led the whole game by taking advantage of mistakes Woodbine made early. The Wheeler’s defense forced four interceptions, and special teams recovered two fumbles in the win. Audubon got the ball to start the game as they marched down the field. Aaron Olsen made big plays in the first quarter for Audubon. The Wheelers took a 6-0 lead off of a 31-yard touchdown run by Olsen. The Audubon lead would continue to grow in the first quarter as Carson Wessel would find Olsen open on a wheel route for a 29-yard touchdown. Going to the second quarter the Wheelers would lead 20-6. The Wheeler’s defense was great all night, forcing Woodbine into third and long situations. At the half, the Audubon lead would grow to 34-12.
In the second half, the Wheelers used the run game to their advantage, milking a lot of the clock due to their rushing attack. Neither team scored in the third quarter, which went by quickly. In the fourth quarter, Carson Wessel found the endzone for his second rushing touchdown. The Wheelers would go on to win 42-18, advancing in the eight-man playoffs.
For the Wheelers, they ran for over 231 yards on the ground. Carson Wessel led the rushing attack with 30 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Wessel was also 7-14 through the air for 77 yards and two more touchdowns. Aaron Olsen was the second-leading rusher for the Wheelers with 74 yards and a touchdown. Olsen was also the leading receiver with 52 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Aaron Olsen had six tackles and two interceptions. Adam Obrecht was the leading tackler with 10.5 and added an interception. Audubon advances to take on Remsen St. Marys on Thursday with the win.
