Carroll dominated the 1st half, building a 28-0 lead on their way to a 42-13 win that clinched a playoff berth. The Tigers run game clicked to the tune of 286-yards and four rushing touchdowns. Carter Essick was precise in the passing game, throwing for 103-yards on seven attempts with two touchdowns. The defense allowed under 50-yards in the 1st half and gave up 124-yards on the ground and 89-yards through the air. Carroll ran 31-plays in the 1st half, running the ball 26 times.
The Tigers took the opening kickoff, marching 65-yards in 10-plays, scoring on a 7-yard run by Reece Ziegmann, who added a long run to set up the touchdown. Boyden Hull/Rock Valley picked up good chunks on their first three plays but the Tigers defense buckled down, holding them on downs at the Tigers 25-yard line. Carroll proceeded to march down the field, chewing up the clock with the run game. Carroll went 75-yards in 9-plays with Reece Ziegmann scoring his second rushing touchdown, this time from 5-yards and Carroll was up 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter. The defense forced a fumble and Carroll recovered at the Nighthawks 41-yard line. Logan Menken carried the ball the final two plays of an 8-play drive, punching it in from a yard out to give Carroll a 21-0 lead with 4:36 left in the half. After a three and out Carter Essick hit Reece Ziegmann for a 31-yard touchdown with 0:35 left in the half. Carroll was in charge, 28-0.
Boyden Hull/Rock Valley struck quickly to start the 2nd half. Kaden Van Schepen rambled 29-yards on the seventh play of the drive and the Nighthawks pulled within 28-7. Carroll answered, scoring on a 15-yard pass from Carter Essick to Owen Klocke with 3:45 left in the 3rd quarter and Carroll was up 35-7. After a dominating 1st half the Tigers defense had a busted play and the Nighthawks took advantage with Kaden Van Schepen hitting Braylen Crawford for a 65-yard touchdown and they trailed 35-13 late in the 3rd quarter. Boyden Hull/Rock Valley recovered an onside kick but the Tigers defense held them on downs. Carroll punted on their next possession but the defense held on downs at the Nighthawks 49. Carroll had a chance to score but fumbled the ball at the 1-yard line. Quiten Polking stripped the ball away from the Nighthawks on their first play, giving Carroll the ball on the 1-yard line. Taidyn Peterson scored on the Tigers next play to cap the scoring.
Reece Ziegmann had 8 carries for 74-yards and 2 touchdowns along with a touchdown catch. Taidyn Peterson added 98-yards on 17-carries with a touchdown. Carter Essick completed 6 of 7 passes for 103-yards and a touchdown. Owen Klocke had 3 catches for 49-yards and a touchdown. Logan Menken scored a touchdown on 2 carries.
The Tigers end the regular season 6-3 and will head to Mount Vernon on Friday on KIKD 106.7 as they open the postseason.
