Area Volleyball Results For Wednesday, October 23rd

Missouri Valley at South Central Calhoun- Class 2A Region 1

The South Central Calhoun Titans advanced to the Class 2A Region 1 semifinals with a win over Missouri Valley at home on Wednesday. South Central Calhoun trailed in every set except for the fifth set. The Titans also served the ball great in the win keeping Missouri Valley out of system on offense. In the first set, Missouri Valley jumped out to an 11-6 lead, forcing SCC to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Titans would go on a 19-5 run. SCC would win the first set 25-16, taking a 1-0 lead over Missouri Valley. In the second set, the Titans fell down early but were able to work back and held a lead late. SCC would lead 22-16. Missouri Valley would go on a 9-1 run to end the set as they won 25-23.

The third set was the most back-and-forth as it was tied 11 different times. SCC took a 22-21 lead late in the set and would go on to win 25-22. With the win in the third set, SCC would take a 2-1 lead over Missouri Valley. Needing a win, Missouri Valley would control the fourth set as they went on to win 25-15, sending it to a fifth set. In a winner-take-all fifth set, SCC started hot. The Titans took a lead at 4-3 and never looked back as they went on to win 15-11 and 3-2 over Missouri Valley.

The Titans served the ball well, recording 16 aces. Alexa Holm led the team in aces with six. Jayci Graeve was outstanding at the net, leading the team in kills with 28. Brenna McAlister chipped in 14 kills in the win. Sadie Wheelock and Kaitlyn O’Neill each recorded four kills for South Central Calhoun. With the win, the Titans improve to 27-11. SCC is back in action on Monday against MVAOCOU.

St Edmonds At Coon Rapids Bayard- Class 1A Region 5

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders season comes to an end as they fall at home to Fort Dodge St. Edmond. The Crusaders were swept in three straight sets. CRB tried to keep the sets close, but St. Edmonds would separate themselves through the sets to come out on top 3-0. The Crusaders lost all three sets 3-0 on Wednesday. Malia Clayburg led the Crusaders in kills with 12. Ashtyn Klocke and Aubrey Hofbauer each chipped in five kills for CRB. As a team, CRB also recorded 76 digs. The Crusaders season ends with a record 23-6 with the loss.

IKM-Manning at River Valley- Class 1A Region 7

The IKM-Manning Wolves wrap up their season with a loss on the road to a good River Valley team. IKM-Manning struggled in the first set but was able to stick with River Valley in the last two. The Wolves got off to a slow start in the first set as they would fall 25-12 to River Valley. The next two sets were close. IKM-Manning made adjustments and fixed mistakes made in the first set as the second set was tight. River Valley would come out on top in the second set, winning 25-23 and taking a 2-0 lead over the Wolves. River Valley would come out on top in the third set 25-23 again. The Wolves would go on the road and lose 3-0.

Addisyn Bandow and Keagan Eischeid combined for 22 kills for the Wolves on Wednesday. Eischeid recorded a team-high 12 kills, while Bandow had ten. Karlee Arp pitched in a team-high 22 assists for IKM-Manning. As a team, IKM-Manning recorded eight blocks. Eischeid had a team-high three blocks in the loss. With the loss, IKM-Manning ends its season at 14-17.

It was a tough night for the Raiders, facing Ridge View for the fourth time this season, having lost twice early in the season, then winning the last time they met. East Sac led only three times in the match and trailed by double digits in all three sets. The Raptors serve forced Jordin Carroll to set at or behind the 10-foot line often, limiting her options. Ridge View was strong at the net, getting big nights from Gabi Mason and Sydney Blackmore, who swung over the block often. 

Emerson Ludwig tied the opening set at 1 and Addisen Ehler tied it at 2, then put the Raiders up 3-2 with a kill. She had three early kills but Ridge View went up 4-3, building the lead to 7-3. Ehlers third kill pulled them within 7-4 but the Raptors stretched the lead to 15-5 and never looked back. They had five ace serves in the opening set and won 25-9. 

East Sac needed to start quick in set two and gain some momentum but Ridge View jumped out 5-0 before Addisen Ehler had back-to-back kills, pulling East Sac within 5-2. The lead grew to 13-3 but East Sac gained brief momentum scoring three in a row. Kendall Quirk had a kill, pulling the Raiders within 14-8 but Ridge View answered, going up by as many as 13. 

 East Sac grabbed their second lead of the match to start the third set, going up 1-0 but Ridge View scored two in a row. Addisen Ehler had kills that tied the set at 2 and 3 and the Raiders eventually went up 6-5. The lead grew to 8-6 but Ridge View went on a 10-0 run and put the match away with a 25-14 win. 

Addisen Ehler had a team high 12 kills with 8 digs with Kendall Quirk adding 5 kills. Jordin Carroll finished with 21 assists and 6 digs with Ella Wilson and Makenna Steiger both having 4 digs. 

The Raiders season ends at 19-9.

Exira-EHK did as they have all this season and fought, nearly pulling out a hard-fought win on the road after falling down two sets to none. The Spartans showed their resilience, winning sets three and four to send the match to a fifth set. They ended the night with 42 kills, having three players in double figures, led by Taryn Petersen with 16 kills and a .233 kill efficiency. Mayne Jorgensen had a great night, hitting .308 with 12 kills and Jaelynn Petersen added 10 kills. The defense dug up balls the the front row starting getting touches and blocks, finishing with 8 blocks, led by Jaelynn Petersen with 6. Jorgensen (11), Taryn Petersen (18) and Jaelynn Petersen (20) all were in double figures in digs with Zoey Rasmussen adding 8 digs. The Spartans earned two tight wins in sets three and four, exerting a lot of energy before the fifth set, where they fell 15-9. They served at a 93.5% efficiency, with Riley Miller and Mayne Jorgensen both having a pair of aces. Miller and Brooklyn Flathers had strong nights with Miller having 19 assists and Flathers finishing with 16 assists. 

The Spartans end a tremendous season at 15-6 and only lose one starter and regular from this season’s RVC regular season champions.
