Coon Rapids Bayard edged Audubon in a tightly contested match that had both teams losing leads late and featured a third set with eight lead changes and eleven ties. The first-two sets were images of each other with each team using a late run to rally for the win. Audubon led most of set one after taking a 3-2 lead, building a 16-11 lead but Coon Rapids Bayard went on a 6-0 run. They went ahead 19-17 and held on for a 21-19 win. Coon Rapids Bayard went ahead 4-3 in set two and led until Anna Larsen helped serve Audubon on a 7-0 run, putting them up 19-14. The Wheelers sent the match to a 3rd set with the win. The final set went back and forth with neither team leading by more than a point until Coon Rapids Bayard built an 11-7 lead. Audubon went on a 6-0 run, going up 13-11 but Amelia Cook pushed to the deep corner for a kill and Coon Rapids Byard tied the set at 13. Audubon had match point up 14-13 but Cook tied the match at 14. The Crusaders crept ahead 15-14 but Audubon tied it again. Ashtyn Klocke and Malia Clayburg had back-to-back kills for the Crusaders helping them close out the set with a 17-15 win.

Amelia Cook had a strong showing as a freshman setter, finishing with 4 kills, 3 of them in key situations in the third set. Cook added  18 assists and 5 digs. Malia Clayburg paced them at the net with 10 kills to go with 6 digs. Anna Hart paced the back row and did a great job communicating with her hitters, finishing with 19 digs. Ella Heithoff had 9 digs with Ashtyn Klocke adding 8 digs and a team high 2 aces.

Harlow Miller had a strong night for the Wheelers, finishing with 16 kills and a .324 kill efficiency. She added 8 digs and a pair of blocks. Anna Larsen had 21 assists and 9 digs along with serving a 7-0 run late in the 2nd set to help them win. Kadence Brannan-Sporrer and Abby Wanser both had a team high 13 digs with Alissa Testroet adding 6 digs and 2 aces.

Coon Rapids Bayard started the match slow but caught fire late in the first set and rolled to a 2-1 win. The Crusaders called an early timeout as Panorama came out sharp in the opening set. Coon Rapids Bayard battled and nearly rallied all the way back before falling 21-16. The energy they played with late in the first set rolled into the second set and they dominated on their way to a 21-8 win. They were able to establish Aubrey Hofbauer and Ashtyn Klocke  at the net to help Malia Clayburg, who led them with 6 kills. The Crusaders kept the momentum in set three, rolling to a 15-8 win to start the season 2-0.

Malia Clayburg had a strong overall game with 8 digs and 5 aces to go with her 6 kills. Her serving kept Panorama from being in system. Amelia Cook finished with 12 assists and 5 digs while Ashtyn Klocke had 8 digs, Ella Heithoff finished with 7 digs.

The Crusaders head to the Colfax Mingo Tournament on Saturday.

Audubon dropped a heartbreaker in the final match of the night, winning the first set before losing a close second set. Panorama was able to build a lead in the third set on their way to a 2-1 win. The Wheelers hit .100 with Harlow Miller having a strong game at the net with a .304 kill efficiency, finishing with a team high 10 kills. Anna Larsen added 3 kills with a .222 kill efficiency while adding 16 assists. Abby Wanser had a strong match in the back row and at the service line. Wanser led the Wheelers with 12 digs and 4 aces. Jordan Mulford finished with 9 digs with Payton Gust adding 8 digs and Kadence Brannan-Sporrer and Harlow Miller each having 5 kills.

The Wheelers are 0-2 to start the season and will look to rebound next Saturday at the South Central Calhoun Tournament.

Paton Churdan earned a win at home to open the season, dominating sets three and four against Storm Lake St Mary’s. The Rockets were young last season and still have a lot of youth but they were able to use their experience from last season. They pulled out a tight win to open the night, winning 25-21, then dropped the second set 20-25. They quickly bounced back, led by Mia Russell, who was strong at the net and in the back row. Russell helped the Rockets pull away in the final two sets, winning both 25-13. She finished the match with 12 kills and 9 digs, tying Maggie Reed for the team lead in digs. Reed made a nice transition to the back row after having to play middle last season due to injuries. Grace Cullum paced them at the service line with a pair of aces.

The Rockets are 1-0 and will look to win their first road trip on Tuesday at Orient Macksburg.

Exira-EHK earned a hard-fought win to open their season, edging Lenox 16-14 in the third set. The Spartans bounced back after dropping the second set to send the match to a third set. Jaelynn Petersen and Taryn Petersen had strong match at the net combining for 17 kills and 3 blocks. Riley Miller and Brooklyn Flathers did a nice job finding those two in clutch situations, helping them earn a 25-17 win in the opening set and the two-point win to close out the match.

Jaelynn Petersen paced the Spartans with 9 kills and a pair of blocks with Taryn Petersen adding 8 kills and 4 aces. Riley Miller and Brooklyn Flathers both had 9 assists with Flathers adding 3 kills. Zoey Rasmussen helped Exira-EHK with 3 of the teams 9 aces.

The Spartans open the season with a pair of three set wins with both ending with 16-14 wins in set three. They received contributions from everyone in their win over Griswold, squeezing wins in sets one and three. Jaelynn Petersen and Taryn Petersen combined for all 17 of the teams kills, coming up clutch down the stretch of their set wins. Jaelynn led the way with 9 and Taryn finished with 8. Brooklyn Flathers did a nice job working the ball between those two, finishing with 9 assists with Riley Miller adding 6 assists to go with 3 aces. The Spartans served the ball well all night, ending this win with 10 aces. Jaelynn Petersen contributed 4 aces and a team high 3 blocks and Taryn Petersen had 3 aces. Taryn added a big match in the back row with a team high 11 digs with Mayne Jorgensen helping control the Tigers hitters, finishing with 8 digs. Zoey Rasmussen had 4 digs.

The Spartans are 2-0 and head to ACGC on Thursday.

East Sac suffered a tough loss to close out their night at Newell Fonda, dropping the final three sets in a five set loss. The Raiders played well early, winning the first two sets by a combined seven-points. The 7th ranked Mustangs stepped up to the challenge, rallying to take set three, then took charge in sets four and five to finish the reverse sweep. Addisen Ehler had a busy night at the net, swinging 61 times, finishing with 26 kills for a .279 kill efficiency. The Raiders struggled at the net over the final three sets, hitting .140 for the match. Defensively they were strong all night, getting plenty of touches on the Mustangs swings, finishing with 19 blocks, led by Kendall Quirk with 8 and Addisen Ehler with 5 and Emerson Ludwig adding 4 blocks. The Mustangs used the energy from winning set three to roll in set four, winning 25-13. That confidence carried into the fifth set and they won 15-8.

Addisen Ehler led the Raiders with 26 kills to go with 5 blocks, 11 digs and 2 aces. Katelyn Schmitt added 8 kills with Jordin Carroll dishing out 30 assists. Kendall Quirk had a strong night defensively at the net, pacing the Raiders with 8 blocks. Ella Wilson made a nice transition to the back row this season, pacing the Raiders with 16 digs, followed by Jordan Carroll with 10 digs and Katelyn Schmitt with 9 digs.

The Raiders start the season 1-1 and will host a tournament on Saturday.

The East Sac County Raiders picked up their first win of the season in a triangular against GTRA. The Raiders dominated throughout the match, winning each set by ten-plus points. ESC jumped out to a 25-12 victory in the first set to take an early 1-0 lead over GTRA. In the second set, the Raiders would cruise again, winning 25-10. ESC was able to pass the ball well against GTRA, which helped lead to a big win in opening the season. The third set was the closest, but East Sac would still win by double digits as they went on to win 25-14, picking up a 3-0 sweep over GTRA. 

Addisen Ehler had a fantastic game, leading the Raiders with 15 kills and 3 aces. Jordin Carroll added 24 assists in ESC’s win. The Raiders combined for ten blocks as a team. Emerson Ludwig led the team with four blocks and Katelyn Schmitt led them with 4 aces.
