Jaymison Howard singles with 1-out for Sumner Fredricksburg in the top 1st but is doubled off on a line drive to Caden Rochford at 3rd base who made a nice catch on two hard hit balls and a easy throw to 1st for the double play. Jaxon Eckley singled for New Hampton to leadoff the bottom 1st and was forced out at 2nd base on a ground ball to the 2nd baseman. New Hampton got two runners to 1st base but didn’t score.
Caden Trainor scored on a double to left field by Jaxon Willems and Sumner Fredricksburg gets on board first, leading 1-0 going to the bottom 2nd. Reid Rausch singled but was out after a collision with McCoy Nuss, who was trying to field a ground ball to 2nd base. The Chickasaws leave one on-base in the bottom 2nd.
New Hampton had the bats going in the bottom 3rd with five straight singles from Caden Rochford, Jaxon Eckley, Ben Gilbert, Kael Meyers and Braden McShane. Talyn Bohaty walked, scoring Gilbert for the third run of the inning. Reid Rausch singled home a run and Braxton Bundy hit the ball to the 2nd baseman, reaching on a fielder’s choice, scoring McShane. Bohaty scored on a passed ball and Jaxon Eckley singled to score a run and New Hampton led 7-1 at the end of three innings. Davis Van Sickle replaced Jaymison Howard in the bottom 3rd and faced Ty Robinson first, striking him out for the 1st out.
Caden Trainer singled to start the top 4th for the Cougars. They followed that with three straight walks, scoring a run. Braden McShane replaced Jaxon Eckley on the mound. Jaxon Willems scored from 3rd on a passed ball as New Hampton picked off Rhys Land at 2nd base. The Cougars scored a pair of runs and trailed 7-3.
Both teams had gone down in order in the 5th and the Cougars went down in order top 6th. New Hampton loaded the bases bottom 6th but Tatum Nuss gets back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. Braden McShane strikes out the first-two batters in the top of the 7th and gets a fly ball to right field to end the game with New Hampton winning 7-3.
New Hampton faces Underwood on Friday for the Class 2A State Championship.
