Coon Rapids Bayard used a quick start to snap the Rockets five game winning streak, topping Ar-We-Va for the third time this season. Coon Rapids Bayard scored a pair of runs in each of the first-two innings while Ar-We-Va had several opportunities to score but left nine runners on base through the first-four innings. The Rockets didn’t quit, scoring a pair of runs in the 6th but Coon Rapids Bayard had built a 6-0 lead. Both teams turned a double play in the game with Breeley Clayburg stepping on 1st base and throwing out the runner at 2nd in the 6th inning to stop a Rocket Rally. Gabby Hundling caught a fly ball to centerfield in the 6th and the Rockets were able to runner out at 1st to end the inning.

Ar-We-Va put a pair of runners on base in the 1st but didn’t score, setting the stage for Anna Hart to get rolling. Hart opened the game with a single to left and scored on a triple by Malia Clayburg. Clayburg scored on a single by Breeley Clayburg and Coon Rapids Bayard led 2-0 after the 1st inning. The Rockets stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 2nd inning and Coon Rapids Bayard took advantage. Amelia Eddy worked a 2-out walk and scored when Anna Hart hit one to the right-field corner, racing around the bases for a inside the park home run. Ar-We-Va looked like they would respond in the 3rd with Jazmine Molina singling, Delaney Schurke walking and Amber Ragaller getting hit-by-pitch. The Rockets left the bases loaded and trailed 4-0. A triple to start the 5th inning by Anna Hart helped the Crusaders stretch the lead to 5-0 when Brooklyn Burmeister knocked her in. The Crusaders stretched the lead to 6-0 when Mya Downing singled and scored on a double by Maddy Mason in the 6th. Ar-We-Va fought back in the 7th with Jazmine Molina singling and Delaney Schurke walking. They both scored on a single by Amber Ragaller.

Anna Hart went 3-3 and missed the cycle by a double. She hit a home run and tripled to go with a single and scoring 3 times. Hart added 2 RBI while earning the win, going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 9 strikeouts.  Malia Clayburg tripled, going 2-3 with an RBI and scoring a run. Breeley Clayburg had a double with 2 hits and an RBI. Maddy Mason added a double and an RBI.

Jazmine Molina paced Ar-We-Va with 2 hits and scored  a run. Amber Ragaller added 2 RBI and went 6 innings in the circle, allowing 9 hits and 6 earned runs with 3 strikeouts. Delaney Schurke scored a run.

Coon Rapids Bayard improves to 9-11 and will play Ankeny Christian on Wednesday on KIKD 106.7. Ar-We-Va ends their season 6-8.

Colo Nesco At Glidden Ralston- Class 1A Region 3

Glidden Ralston had their bats going on Monday in an opening round win over Colo-Nesco. The Wildcats had 14-hits, including a double and two triples, helping them score 12-runs, ending the game in the 6th inning. Colo-Nesco came out throwing strikes and the Wildcats were aggressive, scoring in every inning but the 4th. Colo-Nesco struck with a run in the 1st inning but Glidden Ralston took charge in the bottom half. A Royals error could have ended the inning at 2-1 but the Wildcats took advantage, scoring a pair of unearned runs to lead 4-1. They didn’t slow down in the 2nd inning with Ashlynn Tigges doubling in a run, helping Glidden Ralston score 3-runs. They stretched the lead to 9-1 in the 3rd, adding 2-runs in the 5th inning. The Royals tacked on a run in the 4th but a Wildcat run in the 6th ended the game.

Kassidy Wenck and Tiela Janssen both had 4-hits with both tripling. Janssen had an RBI and scored 3 times while Wenck came across home plate 5 times. Ashlynn Tigges added a pair of hits with a double, RBI and scoring twice. Jaelyn Subbert had a pair of RBI, earning the win, pitching 6 innings with 7 hits and 1 earned run. Brileigh Bock had a base hit and scored a run.

The Wildcats improved to 9-12 and head to Collins-Maxwell on Wednesday.

IKM-Manning At CAM- Class 1A Region 3

IKM-Manning battled hard, continuing to show the improvement they made this season. The Wolves held CAM in check into the 3rd inning when the Cougars scored 4-runs. IKM-Manning was sharp defensively, making just one error, forcing the Cougars to score with hits. Ella Richards and Karlee Arp pitched well, finishing the game with no walks. The Wolves offense got on track in the 5th innings, scoring a pair of runs, pulling within 6-2. Alikxa McGinn paced the offense with a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI. Hannah McKinney added a double and scored as the Wolves scored again in the 7th inning. CAM added a pair of runs in the 4th inning, then scored a run in the 6th to extend the lead to 7-2.

Kamryn Ketcham added a double for IKM-Manning and Lauren Greving went 1-1.

The loss ends the Wolves season at 2-26.

Alta-Aurelia at East Sac County- Class 2A Region 2

The East Sac County Raiders picked up a win in the opening round of the class 2A playoffs at home over Alta-Aurelia. The Raiders never trailed and hit the ball well in the win. ESC pitching combined to throw a no-hitter in the six-inning victory. In the bottom of the first inning, the Raiders first three batters reached and came around to score as they would take an early 3-0 lead. Sarah Bontrager recorded a two-RBI triple in the inning. East Sac County scored in every inning, and their lead would grow in the second inning to 5-0. Alta-Aurelia would get on the board in the top of the third inning as they plated a single run to cut into the lead at 5-1. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Kendall Quirk would hit a solo home run over the left field fence, and the lead would grow to 7-1. ESC tacked on two more runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth as they would ten-run Alta-Aurelia 13-3 in six innings. 

The Raiders had 11 hits as a team, with three going for extra bases. Jamie Pierce was 3-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Jen Aschinger was 2-2 with a double and a triple. Aschinger also worked three walks and recorded three RBIs. Sarah Bontrager had a multi-hit game, going 2-4, with a triple and four RBIs. Kamry Ross, Addisen Ehler, and Kendall Quirk recorded the other hits for ESC. Miranda Gerdes picked up the win in the circle, going five innings and striking out seven batters. With the win, East Sac County improved to 10-14. The Raiders advance to take on Audubon on Wednesday.

South Central Calhoun hung tough on the road to open the postseason until the 4th inning when Panorama put 8-runs on the board to end the game. The Titans trailed 5-o going into the 4th. Shannon Melody had the lone hit for the Titans with Mady Smidt and Gracie Hungate both walking. Haylee Wiederin reached base on an error and stole a base. The Titans defense had five errors, helping the Panthers with more chances to score.

South Central Calhoun season ends at 1-18.

LoMa At Kuemper- Regular Season

Kuemper had one slip away as they wrapped up the regular season on Monday. The Knights got out quick, scoring 3-runs in the 1st inning but LoMa rallied late, scoring 3-runs in the 7th and getting the Knights in order to end the game in the bottom 7th.

Kaci Peter and Allison Ostrander both reached on a bunt in the 1st inning with Charlotte Schwabe reaching on a fielder’s choice with Kaci Peter getting thrown out at the plate. Kaylie Diercksen doubled to score Ostrander and Schwabe, Ally Sommerfeld singled to score Diercksen, putting the Knights up 3-0. The Knights added a run when Allison Ostrander reached on an error and scored on an error, taking a 4-0 lead. LoMa rallied with a pair of runs in the 4th inning but Kuemper responded in the 5th inning when Kaci Peter singled and scored on an error. The Panthers cut into the lead with a run in the 6th then scored 3-runs in the 7th. The Panthers used a single, fielder’s choice, a single and a 3-run home run to take a 6-5 lead. The Knights went down in order in the bottom 7th.

Kaci Peter and Kaylie Diercksen both had 2 hits with Diercksen doubling, driving in 2-runs and scoring once and Peter scoring once. Allison Ostrander singled and scored twice and Ally Sommerfeld had a base hit and drove in a run.

The Knights are 16-13 as they head into postseason at home on Wednesday against Manson NW Webster on KCIM.

Carroll at Denison-Schleswig

The Carroll Tigers fall on the road Monday as they get set to start the playoffs later this week. The Tigers never lead in the game. Neither team scored in the first inning. Denison-Schleswig scored twice in the bottom of the second as they took an early 2-0 lead. Denison opened the game up in the third inning as they plated five runs, and the lead would grow to 7-0. Carroll responded in the top of the fourth inning as they cut into the lead at 7-1. In the home half of the fifth, Denison-Schleswig scored two runs as the lead would grow to 9-1. Carroll added another run in the seventh, but they would go on to lose 9-2. 

Emma Kuhlmann recorded a double for the Tigers. Kuhlmann also came around to score. Kloee Jones scored the other run for Carroll. Jersey Sporrer recorded a single for Carroll. With the loss, Carroll falls to 7-22. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday against Bondurant-Farrar.
