Kuemper at Shenandoah – Doubleheader

On Monday, the Kuemper Knights pick up a victory in game one of a doubleheader over Shenandoah. Kuemper’s pitching was outstanding in the first game, only giving up two hits to Shenandoah batters. Neither team scored in the first inning. At the top of the second, Kuemper was able to plate a couple of runs to score 2-0. The Knights picked up two hits in the inning coming from Mason Knerl and Josh Langel. Kuemper would hold on to a 2-0 lead going to the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, the Knights extended their lead to 3-0. Neither team scored in the final two innings as Kuemper would go on to win game one 3-0.

In the win Kuemper recorded five hits as a team. Mason Knerl was 2-3 with an RBI. Ethan Loew, Josh Langel, and Aaron McDermott recorded the other hits for Kuemper. Tristian Janson picked up the win on the hill, going five innings, giving up two hits, and striking out five Shenandoah hitters.

Kuemper dropped game two, splitting the doubleheader with Shenandoah in extra innings. Both teams’ pitchers started strong, and the game would be scoreless through the first four innings. Kuemper plated the game’s first run in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 1-0 lead. The Knights’s lead would grow in the sixth inning to 4-0. The Knights hit the ball well, recording seven hits as a team. Shenandoah would tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh at 4-4 as the game went to extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth and ninth innings. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Shenandoah would plate one run to go on and win 5-4.

Tristan Janson, Aaron McDermott, and Mason Knerl all had multi-hit games for Kuemper. Josh Langel recorded the other hit for the Knights. Carter Putney pitched well, going six-plus innings, giving two earned runs on two hits, and striking out nine Shenandoah hitters. The Knights went 1-1 in the doubleheader, which brings their record to 9-12. Kuemper is back in action on Tuesday against Atlantic.

The Carroll Tigers fell at home to a good North Polk team but held a lead late and slipped away. Neither team scored in the first inning. North Polk scored the game’s first runs as they plated four runs in the second inning, taking a 4-0 lead. The Comets would extend their lead in the third inning to 7-0. The Tigers bats came to life in the third inning. Braxton Lu had an RBI double, Jake Jorgensen hit a two-run home run, and Jackson Gross had a triple as Carroll would go on to plate 12 runs in the third to take a 12-7 lead. North Polk would respond with four runs in the fourth inning to cut into the Tiger lead making the score 12-11. The Carroll lead grew as the Tigers plated a single run in the home half to make it 13-11. North Polk scored six runs over the next two innings as they would take the lead back at 17-13. Going to the bottom of the seventh, Carroll would plate two runs and get the winning run on base but would go on to lose 17-15.

As a team, Carroll recorded 12 hits. Jackson Gross went 2-3 with a double, a triple, and four RBIs. Jake Jorgensen was 1-4 with a two-run home run. Tate Schlieisman, Chase Ragaller, and Braxton Lu each had multi-hit games. Carter Essick, Ryan North, and Landon Petersen recorded the other hits for the Tigers. Chase Ragaller suffered the loss on the hill, giving up five earned runs on three hits in two innings of work. With the loss, Carroll falls to 5-11 and 0-10 in conference play. The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday against Bondurant-Farrar.

The Rockets struggled to locate pitches as they would give up 15 runs to CAM in four innings of play. CAM scored in every inning. In the bottom of the first inning, the Cougars plated only one run to take an early 1-0 lead. The lead would grow over the next three innings, with six in the second, four in the third, and four more in the fourth. CAM would go on to win 15-0. Ar-We-Va only managed four hits in the game. Jonathan Riesselman went 2-2 with a double in the game. Blayne Smith and Devon Ehlers recorded the other hits for the Rockets. Smith took the loss on the hill, going two-plus innings, giving up ten earned runs, and striking out two CAM batters. With the loss, Ar-We-Va falls to 0-8. The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday against Exira-EHK.

The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats hit the ball well on Monday but fell on the road of Exira-EHK. Glidden-Ralston held an early lead but lost it. In the top of the first inning, the Wildcats would plate a single run, taking a 1-0 lead. The lead grew in the second inning to 3-0 in favor of Glidden-Ralston. With two outs in the home half of the second, the Wildcats committed three errors, and Exria-EHK would score five runs, taking a 5-3 lead. Neither team scored in the third inning as the game would stay 5-3. The Wildcats would tie the game up with a run in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 5-5. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Exria-EHK regained the lead as they would go on to win 6-5.

As a team, the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats recorded ten hits, five of which went for extra bases. Mark Lensch went 1-2 with a solo home run. Daniel Thooft, Alex Daniel, and Landon Rohrbeck each had multi-hit games. Daniel went 2-4 with a double and a triple. Jonathan Bergmeier went five innings on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up five hits and striking out eight Exira-EHK batters. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston falls to 3-10. The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday against West Central Valley.

The Raiders were in good shape, leading 5-4 going into the 4th inning but the Rebels scored 6-runs in the bottom 4th, taking a 10-5 lead. The Raiders weren’t able to recover in a game that was moved to Sac City on Monday afternoon, due to rain in Petersen. East Sac put the bat on the ball well, collecting 10 hits with one extra base hit. Most of their damage came early in the game, as they had a pair of hits in the 5th inning, scoring a run but had two baserunners over the final two innings. 

Jack Gullett doubled and Carter Erritt singled in the 2nd inning with both scoring on  single by Tucker Grossley. They added 3-runs in the 3rd with Karter Ludwig starting the rally when he was hit-by-pitch and Luke Wernimont reached on an error. Carter Erritt singled to score them both and Erritt scored on a single by Luke Wright. Karter Ludwig walked and scored on a passed ball in the 5th. 

Carter Erritt led the way with 3 hits and 2 RBI while Tucker Grossley had a pair of RBI. Karter Ludwig and Cael Roth both scored twice. 

The Raiders fall to 2-10 and will head to Manson NW Webster on Wednesday.

Audubon made 6 errors, allowing 7 unearned runs in a loss on the road on Monday.  The Wheelers took an early lead when Brody Schultes singled and scored on a ball off the bat of Carson Wessel, who reached on an error. Schultes started the offense rolling again in the 3rd inning. He singled and scored on a sac fly by Colton Hansen. Evan Alt followed later in the inning with a double, scoring Aaron Olsen and Carson Wessel. They led 4-0 going into the bottom 4th but the Big Red rallied to tie the game. Missouri Valley took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the 5th, then added 4 more in the 6th. The Wheelers stranded Aaron Olsen on base in the 5th but didn’t get a runner on base in the 6th or 7th innings. 

Evan Alt had a double with 2 RBI while Brody Schultes and Aaron Olsen both had 2 hits. Schultes scored a pair of runs. 

The loss drops Audubon to  1-16-1. They host LoMa on Tuesday.

The game was scoreless through 4 innings but LoMa scored 9-runs combined between the 5th and 6th inning as the Wolves made 6 errors, allowing 5 unearned runs. They tried to rally in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 4-runs, but the rally fell short. The offense struggled until the 7th, finishing with 2 hits and 10 strikeouts. They battled for 6 walks, helping them keep the rally going late. 

Tristan Barry and Bryc Summerfield had a hit each and both scored a run. Barry added an RBI as did Kasche Huehn and Brock Kusel. Bryc Summerfield pitched 4 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 3. 

The Wolves fall to 9-10 overall and 4-7 in the WIC. They host Treynor on Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun grabbed an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the 1st inning with Marshall Bundt driving in a run and Andrew Anderson and Cooper Nattress both scoring. The offense struggled against a strong Tiger pitching staff after that as Woodbine tied the game with a pair of runs in the 1st inning, then took the lead with a run in the 2nd. They blew it open with 8-runs in the 3rd. The Tigers finished with 12, scoring 12 earned runs. South Central Calhoun ended the game with 4 hits but did a nice job putting the ball in play, striking out twice while getting hit-by-pitch three times. 

Charlie Nattress had 2 hits with Cooper Nattress and Andrew Anderson collecting a hit apiece. Anderson and Cooper Nattress both scored. 

The Titans fall to 7-8 overall and will head to Newell Fonda on Wednesday.

Coon Rapids Bayard earned a hard fought win on the road on Monday, maintaining a half game lead on Woodbine in the conference race. The Crusaders scored early, taking a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, then added 2 more in the 3rd. They pushed the lead to 5-0 in the 6th but had to hold off a Boyer Valley rally in the 7th. The Bulldogs scored 3-runs in the 7th. 

Cal Heydon, Parker Hays and Cade Behrens all had 2 hits. Heydon doubled and scored twice. Behrens doubled, drove in a run and scored a run. Cal Heydon earned the win, going 4 innings with 10 strikeouts. The win moves CRB to 11-8-1. The Crusaders are back in action on Wednesday against Glidden-Ralston.
