Earlham At Audubon

Earlham 5

Audubon 3

Audubon struggled early in their first game of the season, allowing 5-runs in the first-two innings to the 7th ranked Cardinals. A few errors extended those innings and Earlham was making good contact with the ball. The Wheelers settled in as the game went on, getting Earlham in order in the 3rd and allowing five players on base the rest of the game. That gave them time to get their bats going. The Wheelers stranded two runners in scoring position in the 1st inning and left a runner on base in the 3rd and 4th inning. That changed in the 5th inning when Addie Hocker singled to start the inning and moved to 2nd base on a sac bunt by Gemini Goodwin. Hocker scored when Mattie Nielsen launched a no-doubt home run, deep over the left-centerfield fence. Audubon threatened again in the 7th with Jordan Porsch singling and scoring on a double by Riley Miller, who had a pair of doubles. The Wheelers had a player tag out at home to end the game with the tying run at 2nd base.

Riley Miller had a pair of doubles with an RBI. She went 4 innings on the hill, allowing 2  hits while striking out 7. Jordan Porsch added a pair of singles with a run scored. Mattie Nielsen had a 2-run home run. Michelle Brooks had two nice diving catches at 3rd base.

The Wheelers start the season 0-1 and will host AHSTW on Tuesday.
