State Track Results Saturday, May 18th
The Carroll Tigers girls track team capture their first state championship in track since the mid 1990’s and the record holder was Kim McCaffery in the 400 hurdles. Marie Dea of Carroll captures a state championship in 3A girls 800-meter run. Dea ran in the first heat of the race and came out fast. Dea who competed in three events already at the blue oval kept up her pace as she grew a 50-meter lead quickly. The first 400 meters Dea ran in just over a minute at 1:03.04. Dea kept the pace going into the last 400 running the second lap in 1:10.03. She waited for the second heat to complete before finding out she was a state champion. Overall, she ran a time of 2:13.09.
Also, in the 800 Chloe Judisch of South Central Calhoun competed in the 2A girl’s section. Judisch came in seeded in the top eight. Judisch ran a time of 2:19.77 which was good for a seventh-place finish. Ryan North of the Carroll Tigers ran in the 3A Boys 800-meter run. North was the lone Carroll boy state meet qualifier. North finished in tenth with a time of 1:57.84 which was a new school record.
The final day of the 2024 state track meet started quickly with the girl’s sprint medley relays. The South Central Calhoun girls ran in the 2A portion of the event finishing in 24th. Olivia Toms, Jayci Greave, Mya Ridgely, and Onna Haupert ran a time of 2:03.28. The Carroll girls sprint medley competed in 3A running a time of 1:59.52. Brenna Goins, Libby Perkins, Marasyn Wittrock, and Autumn Fortner finished in 24th for the Tigers. The Audubon boys wrapped up the sprint medley portion of the morning with a ninth-place finish in 1A. Brody Schultes, Mason Steckler, Aaron Olsen, and Zeke Konkler ran a time of 1:36.86.
Caden Oswald of Coon Rapids Bayard has been busy these last three days, competing in four events and the 200 Meters twice, having qualified for the 200 Meters Finals. He felt the preliminaries for the 200 felt faster and was happy with how he started out of the blocks in the finals. The wind had an impact on the straightaway. He finished 8th overall with a 23.15.
Chloe Judisch of South Central Calhoun closed out a strong career in the 1500 Meters in Class 2A. Judisch started well, getting out with the top half of the pack, she stayed around 14th or 15th most of the race, running at a solid pace on an incredibly warm day. Judisch closed the race, passing a runner on the final lap, taking 13th place. Judisch ran a season best, finishing in 5:04.01. Jacob Greving of Kuemper was in the top 3 of the Boys Class 2A 3200 Meters for the first half mile, running a really strong pace. He dropped a few spots over the third quarter mile as the heat began to affect the field. Greving finished in 11th place, running a 4:35.83.
The Carroll girls 4×400 team wrapped up the 2024 state track meet with a good finish in the 3A finals. Marasyn Wittrock started the race setting the pace for the Tigers. Averi Burke ran the second leg keeping Carroll within striking distance. Katelyn Aden followed as was able to make up some ground moving Carroll ahead a couple of places. Marie Dea anchored the 4×400 and ran a great leg as she brought the tigers into fifth place. Carroll ran a time of 4:01.28 and finished fifth in the 4×400,
