The Kuemper Knights dropped a close one on the road to Clarinda. The Knights jumped out to a lead in the first quarter, scoring 13 points, taking a 13-12 lead over the Cardinals. Clarinda’s offense clicked in the second quarter as they scored 20 points and took a 32-24. The Knights chipped into the lead and outscored Clarinda 10-8 in the third quarter. Kuemper trailed 40-34 going to the fourth quarter. The Knights best offensive quarter was the fourth quarter. Kuemper scored 19 points as they cut into the Clarinda lead. The Knights would go on to lose by three, 56-53.

Elsa Tiefenthaler was Kuemper’s leading scorer with 17 points. Tiefenthaler knocked down a team-high three threes. Frannie Glynn was the Knights second leading scorer with ten points. Glynn also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. Kaylie Simons, off the bench, recorded five steals. As a team, Kuemper picked up 19 steals and pulled down 24 rebounds in the loss.

The loss drops Kuemper to 4-8 on the season and 2-3 in the Hawkeye Ten. The Knights are back in action on Friday against Creston.

The Carroll Tigers fell on the road to a very good North Polk team Tuesday night. The Tigers did not shoot the ball well against North Polk. The game started close, but North Polk led going to the second quarter 20-12. The Tigers would trail by 19 going into the locker room 39-20. Carroll only managed two points in the third quarter and trailed 53-22. Carroll would go on to lose 70-33.

The Tigers’ leading scorer was Olivia Rowedder, who scored 12 points. Carly Menken pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for Carroll. The Tigers, as a team, recorded 26 rebounds.

The loss drops Carroll to 5-6 on the season and 3-5 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers are back in action on Thursday at Cherokee.

The East Sac County Raiders dropped a close game at home to West Bend Mallard Tuesday night. The Raiders shot the ball well against West Bend Mallard. ESC got out to a good start in the first quarter, taking an early lead 16-10. In the second quarter, ESC struggled offensively, only scoring six points. The Raiders trailed at the half 25-22. West Bend Mallard extended their lead to four in the third quarter. The Raiders were outscored in quarters 14-13 and trailed 39-35. Both teams scored ten points in the fourth quarter, and ESC would go on to lose 49-45.

Sarah Bontrager led the Raiders in scoring with 18 points. Bontrager shot the ball well, knocking down four three-pointers. Makenna Steiger was the second-leading scorer for ESC with 13 points. The Raiders rebounded the ball well, pulling down 36 as a team. Bontrager recorded a team-high 11 rebounds. Addisen Ehler pulled down nine rebounds for East Sac County.

With the loss, ESC falls to 4-8 and 2-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Raiders are back in action on Thursday against MVAOCOU.

South Central Calhoun shot the ball well but struggled on defense in a loss at home to Pocahontas Area. The first quarter was close as the Titans would be down 16-10 in the second. PAC opened the game up in the second quarter, outscoring SCC to take a double-digit lead going to the locker room at 35-16. SCC cut into the lead in the third quarter as they outscored PAC 19-18. The Titans would trail 53-35. SCC would go on to lose 66-46.

The Titans had three players in double figures Tuesday night. Mia Babcock was the leading scorer with 15 points. Blair Schleisman chipped in 13 points for SCC. Bre Patterson was the other Titan in double figures as she recorded 12 points. Babcock recorded a team-high seven rebounds. As a team, SCC recorded 11 steals.

SCC falls to 4-8 on the season and 1-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Titans are back in action on Thursday against Alta-Aurelia.

Ar-We-Va won a game of runs, using a 16-0 run to take the lead and a spurt in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead. Paton Churdan led early, getting up 15-4 midway though the 2nd quarter, using a 10-0 run to build the lead. Ar-We-Va responded to tie the game at half and took the lead for good in the 3rd. Paton Churdan was able to establish Alivya Smith in the 1st half, she scored 10-points in 1st half, getting free at the free throw line or attacking with a pump fake. Paton Churdan was strong on the boards in the 1st half as well, out rebounding Ar-We-va 20-12. Ar-We-Va adjusted in the 2nd half, getting more aggressive on defense, holding Smith to 4-points and rebounding much better. evening the rebound battle. Their offense got going as well, allowing them to stretch their lead in the 4th quarter, holding Paton Churdan to 2-points. 

Gabby Hundling put Ar-We-Va up early as both offenses struggled early. Paton Churdan responded with buckets from Grace Cullum, tying the game at 2, followed by a bucket from Alivya Smith, giving them the lead. Smith scored six straight points for Paton Churdan, helping them build a 11-4 lead. Ava Minnehan stretched it to 13-4 and Smith scored again, making it 15-4 in the 2nd quarter. Amber Ragaller got the Rockets going with a bucket, stopping Paton Churdan 10-0 run. Azaya Martinez pulled Ar-We-Va to 15-8 and Gabby Hundling made it 15-10. A three from Delaney Schurke kept Ar-We-Va on the roll and Amber Ragaller used a baseline drive on the left side to tie the game at 15. Both teams had chances to score late in the half but the game was tied at 15 at halftime. 

Amber Ragaller gave Ar-We-Va the lead in the 3rd and Gabby Hundling made it 20-15 with a three. Alivya Smith scored for Paton Churdan, stopping the Ar-We-Va run during the 2nd and 3rd quarters at 16-0. Ava Minnehan added a bucket late in the quarter and Ar-We-Va lead was 20-19 heading to the 4th quarter. Gabby Hundling took over for Ar-We-Va to start the 4th quarter with back-to-back steals and layups, then hitting a long jumper, putting Ar-We-Va up 26-19. Alivya Smith scored for Paton Churdan and they trailed by 5. Karime Sanchez was strong inside down the stretch, scoring 4-points, followed by a three from Delaney Schurke that put Ar-We-Va up 33-21. 

Gabby Hundling paced Ar-We-Va with 13-points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Delaney Schurke fought through a box-and-one to finish with 8-points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Amber Ragaller scored 6-points and dished out 5 assists. Azaya Martinez added 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals while Karime Sanchez had 6 rebounds.

Alivya Smith was strong for Paton Churdan, having a nice double-double with 14-points and 14 rebounds. Hailey Hoyle added 10 rebounds and Kaliyah Minnehan had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. 

Ar-We-Va improved to 2-10 and 2-7 in the Rolling Valley. They head to Exira-EHK on Friday. 

Paton Churdan fell to 0-11 and 0-7 and will  host Glidden Ralston on Thursday.

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders continued their outstanding season with a blowout win over West Harrison at home Tuesday night. CRB jumped out to a quick start as they played great defense in the first quarter to take a 21-2 lead. The Crusaders would lead 37-5 at the half. CRB’s defense continued to play well as they held West Harrison to only one point in the third quarter and took a 48-6 lead. The Crusaders would go on to win big 58-10.

Malia Clayburg was the Crusaders leading scorer with 15 points. Breeley Clayburg chipped in 13 points for CRB. Breeley also recorded a team-high seven rebounds. Anna Hart recorded a team-high seven steals. As a team, CRB recorded 28 steals.

With the win, CRB improves to 8-2 on the season and 7-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Crusaders are back in action on Thursday against AHSTW.

The Wildcats struggled on the road against Exira-EHk. Glidden-Ralston has played a tough schedule this season and continued Tuesday. Glidden-Ralston struggled offensively in the game. The Wildcats went scoreless in the first quarter and found themselves down 19-0 going to the second. Glidden-Ralston got some offense going but would trail at the half 37-7. Exira-EHK outscored the Wildcats in the third quarter 17-8. Glidden-Ralston would go on to lose 65-17.

Kassidy Wenck was the Wildcats leading scorer with six points. Tiela Janssen chipped in five points for Glidden-Ralston. Brileigh Bock also recorded five points for the Wildcats. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston falls to 4-7 and 3-6 in conference play. The Wildcats are back in action against Paton Churdan on Thursday.

The IKM-Manning Wolves played well offensively but lost on the road to AHSTW Tuesday night. The game started back and forth, but IKM-Manning would trail 31-19 going into the locker room. AHSTW opened the game up in the second half and would go on to win 64-45. Anna Stangl was the Wolves leading scorer with 18 points. Abby Nieheisel was also in double figures with ten points for IKM-Manning. Emma Reginato chipped in six points for IKM-Manning. Reginato pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Taylor Beckendorf recorded a team-high four steals. The loss drops IKM-Manning to 1-11 and 1-7 in conference play. The Wolves are back in action on Friday against Tri-Center.
