The Kuemper Knights trailed only once in their home win against Atlantic Friday night. To start the game, Atlantic won the opening tip and wasted no time getting a shot off as they hit a three. On Atlantic’s next possession, they picked up a two-point basket to lead 5-0. Kuemper would answer by going on a run of their own and took an 8-5 lead. The first quarter offensively was Kuemper’s best quarter, as they outscored Atlantic 25-16 to take the lead in the second quarter. Kuemper struggled to start the second quarter but still outscored Atlantic 17-9. The Knights would take a 42-25 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Knights were not sharp defensively. Atlantic hit five threes in the quarter against Kuemper’s zone defense as they outscored the Knights 19-16 in the quarter. Kuemper’s lead was cut to eight in the third quarter, but they led 58-44 going to the fourth quarter. Kuemper’s defense showed up in the fourth quarter as they would go on to win 74-52.

Kuemper had four players score in double figures. The Knights were led in scoring by Michale Kasperbauer, who recorded 14 points. Carter Putney chipped in 13 points. Carson Kanne shared the basketball well all night but was the team’s third-leading scorer with 12 points. Brock Badding recorded 11 points for Kuemper. Kanne recorded a team-high seven assists. As a team, Kuemper pulled down 27 rebounds.

With the win, the Knights improved to 9-1 on the season and have won nine straight games. Kuemper also improves to 5-0 in conference play. The Knights are back in action against East Sac County on Saturday.

Carroll erupted early, pouring in 24-points in the 1st quarter as Evan Hammer and Jared Mohr took over on the offensive end. Mohr had 17-points at half, knocking down 3-3’s while Hammer was unstoppable around the rim. The two combined for nearly all of Carroll’s points in the 1st quarter. Payton Wardell scored around the 2:00 mark in the 1st quarter, pushing the Tigers lead near double figures and becoming the first Tiger to score besides Mohr and Hammer. Carlisle slowed the Tigers a little in the 2nd quarter but Carroll led 36-22 at half. The 2nd half was nearly a repeat of the 1st quarter with Carroll exploding for 21-points to blow the game open. Carroll led by 21 entering the 4th quarter. All three of Jared Mohr’s three’s in the 1st half, came in the 1st quarter and Evan Hammer was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line in the 2nd half. 

Hammer led the Tigers with 34-points while pulling down 17 rebounds and making 4 assists. Jared Mohr added 23-points with 6 rebounds. Payton Wardell finished with 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Stone Sibenaller had 7 rebounds. 

The Tigers won their second straight since the break, improving to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the Raccoon River Conference. They host ADM on Tuesday.

The East Sac County Raiders drop their first game of the year with a road loss to Emmetsburg. The Raider struggled to shoot the basketball. Emmetsburg led for the whole game and took an 11-6 lead going to the second quarter. The Raiders got things going in the second quarter but trailed Emmetsburg 25-16. coming out of the locker room, Emmetsburg extended their lead by outscoring ESC 18-11. The Raiders would trail 43-27 going to the fourth quarter. The Raiders attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter. ESC scored 19, which was their best-scoring quarter of the night. ESC would on to lose 58-46.

The Raiders only made four threes on the night and shot 25 percent for three. Ryan Clair was the Raiders leading scorer with 14 points. Clair also recorded a team-high nine rebounds. Luke Wright chipped in 12 points and pulled down six rebounds for East Sac County. With the loss, ESC falls to 7-1. The Raiders are back in action against Kuemper on Saturday.

South Central Calhoun had their best offensive night of the season in a blowout win on the road against Storm Lake St. Mary’s. SCC jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, scoring 30 points. The Titans would lead 30-9 going to the second quarter. The offensive continued to shine in the second quarter as SCC scored 16 more points to take a 46-14 lead going to the locker room. SCC outscored Storm Lake St. Mary’s 18-3 in the third quarter to extend their lead 64-17. The Titans would go on to win 84-23.

Keegan Soard had his best game of the season, recording a team-high 22 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Cole Higgins shot the ball well for SCC as he scored 19 points. Charlie Nattress was excellent off the bench, chipping in 11 points for SCC. As a team, the Titans shot 50 percent for the field. With the win, SCC improved to 7-3 and has won seven straight games. SCC is back in action on Tuesday at Humboldt.

Ar-We-Va earned a nice win at home on Friday, building an 18-point lead midway through the 2nd quarter then holding on down the stretch as CAM tied the game in the 3rd. The Rockets played well on defense with good effort and made key plays on the offensive end while hitting free throws at clutch times. The Rockets led 17-4 after the 1st quarter and were up by 10 going into the half. CAM tied it in the 3rd and trailed by 2-points entering the 4th quarter. 

Blayne Smith had a strong night with 21-points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists while Emmett Nuemann added 12-points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Wyatt Ragaller and Wade Ragaller both had 10-points and 4 rebounds. Harley Molina added 6-points. 

Ar-We-Va moves to 6-4 overall, having won three in a row. They are 4-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference and will host Woodbury Central on Saturday.

Coon Rapids-Bayard at Glidden-Ralston

Coon Rapids-Bayard bounced from a loss Thursday on the road with a blowout win over Glidden-Ralston. Coon Rapids-Bayard came out and defended really well. They held Glidden-Ralston to only four points in the first quarter. The Crusaders were able to turn Glidden-Ralston over in the first half, which led to easy baskets. The Wildcats found themselves down 16-4 going to the second quarter. The Crusaders conintued the defensive intensity and out scored Glidden-Ralston 19-4. CRB took a 35-8 lead at the half. Glidden-Ralston got things going offensively in the third quarter as they scored 15 points. CRB would extended thier lead going to the fourth to 53-23. The Crusaders would go on to win 66-29.

Cal Heydon scored a team high 21 points for the Crusaders and pulled down a team high ten rebounds. Caden Oswald chipped in ten points for CRB. Off the bench Gavin Heiderscheit recorded 11 points. Emmett Snyder and Wade Hunter pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Wildcats. As a team, the Glidden-Ralston combined for four assists. Jonathan Bergmeier scored a team-high 13 points for the Wildcats.

With the win, the Crusaders improved to 9-2. The loss drops Glidden-Ralston to 5-5. CRB is back in action on Tuesday at Ar-We-Va. The Wildcats are back in action against West Harrison on Tuesday.

Paton Churdan continued to progress on offense, scoring in double figures in two quarters and nearly scoring in double figures in the other two quarters against one of the top teams in the league. The Tigers offense was able to find soft spots in the Rockets defense, scoring 45- points in the 1st half and leading 45-18 at half. The Rockets did outscore the Tigers 16-9 in the 4th quarter. 

Trevor Keely and Phoenix Hartman were both in double figures for Paton Churdan with 17-points and 10-points respectively. Kinnick Steimel and Cayden Steam both added 6-points. 

The Rockets fall to 0-11 and will travel to Boyer Valley on Tuesday.

IKM-Manning led most of the way in this Western Iowa Conference matchup, building a 15-11 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and a 31-23 lead at half. The Wheelers looked to be in trouble heading into the 4th quarter as the Wolves extended the lead to 10. Audubon rallied, using a 10-0 run to start the final stanza, tying the game at 42. The game would be tied twice more at 45 and 47 in the closing minutes but Ross Kusel came up clutch for a second straight night for the Wolves. Kusel hit a bucket to put the Wolves up 49-47, then added a driving layup and free throw to extend the lead to 52-47. Audubon scored and called a timeout, down 52-49. The Wolves were able to get the ball inbound and Audubon fouled, sending Justin Segebart to the line, where he made one of two free throws to push the lead to 53-49, making it a two possession game with 0:08 left. The Wolves got a stop to hold on for the win. 

Ross Kusel paced the Wolves with 19-points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Ben Ramsey had 17-points, Lane Sams added 8 rebounds, Justin Segebart had 6 assists and 4 steals. 

No stats were reported by Audubon. 

IKM-Manning earns their second straight win, improving to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the Conference while Audubon slips to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the league. The Wolves head to Underwood on Tuesday while Audubon looks to snap a two game losing streak when they host Missouri Valley on Tuesday.
