The Kuemper Catholic Knights even their record at 2-2 with a big win on the road at Roland-Story Friday night. Kuemper led the whole game and was balanced on offense as they won 42-7. Kuemper scored on their first drive of the game on a DJ Vonahme QB sneak from two yards out to take an early 7-0 lead. The Knights used Iowa commit DJ Vonahme all over the field as Brock Badding connected with Vonahme for a 14-yard touchdown. The Knights led 14-0 going to the second quarter. The Kuemper defense was excellent all night. In the second quarter, Carson Kanne took a punt return 60 yards to the house for the third Knight touchdown of the game. Kuemper would take a 21-0 lead going into halftime. Roland-Story made adjustments in the locker room as they scored their first touchdown with just over 9:00 minutes left in the third quarter to cut into the Kuemper lead at 21-7. The Knights didn’t let the touchdown faze them as Brock Badding found Ben Gerken for a 14-yard touchdown to extend the Kuemper lead to 35-7. The final touchdown for the Knights came towards the end of the game on a one-yard run by Kaesin Pierce as the Kuemper would go on to win 42-7.
Kuemper, who has struggled to run the ball to start the season, recorded three touchdowns on the ground. Kaesin Pierce led the nights in rushing, recording 95 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown. Michael Kasperbauer recorded seven receptions for 52 yards. As mentioned, DJ Vonahme was used all over the field. He had four carries for 34 yards and a touchdown and also recorded three receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. Brock Badding had his best game of the season as he completed 18 of his 23 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
