Kuemper faced as tough a season opening match as you can get, taking on number 1 ranked Dike-New Hartford. Kuemper fell down early, trailing 5-0 early and 14-6 midway through the set. Frannie Glynn helped ignite a Kuemper rally, getting a big block and a kill. A Lauren Boell kill pulled the Knights within 15-12 but the Wolverines answered with a 5-1 run. Frannie Glynn cut it to 20-14 but the Wolverines won 21-14. Kuemper stayed close early in set 2, tying the set at 3 and trailing 7-5 after a kill from Kaci Peter. Dike-New Hartford put the match away with a 9-2 run, winning set 2, 21-9.
Kuemper looked like they would bounce back against Nevada, taking a 4-1 lead. Nevada rallied and took a 9-8 before Kaci Peter tied it at 9 and Brianna Wittrock tied it at 10 with each getting a kill. Aubrey Heuton put Kuemper in control with three aces and a Frannie Glynn kill mixed in, putting them up 17-14. Kuemper extended the lead to 19-14 but Nevada got on a roll. Kuemper had a chance, up 20-16, but Nevada scored the next 6 points to win 22-20. The Cubs dominated the early part of set 2, leading 16-4. Kuemper caught fire late with a Kaci Peter ace starting the run. Brianna Wittrock had a block, Aubrey Heuton scored a twice and Elsa Tiefenthaler had an ace, pulling the Knights within 19-14. Lauren Boell had a pair of kills and the Knights were within 20-17, but Nevada scored the match winner on a tool from the outside.
Kuemper played their best match of the night in their finale. They controlled the match with Winterset, not letting the Huskies get into a rhythm. The Knights finished with 13 kills and their only 3 aces of the evening. Kuemper won 21-12 and 21-10, improving to 1-2 on the season.
Frannie Glynn paced the Knights at the net with 8 kills and 2 aces. Brianna Wittrock and Kaci Peter each added 6 kills while Aubrey Heuton added 5 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler had 15 assists and Karsyn Overmohle added 14 assists. Kaylie Simons led the back row with 16 digs, Brianna Wittrock finished with 7 digs, Kaci Peter and Aubrey Heuton both had 5 digs. Lauren Boell and Biranna Wittrock led the team with 4 blocks each. Stats are combined from all three matches.
The Knights head to Humboldt for a tournament on Saturday.

The South Central Calhoun Titans struggled on the road in their first game of the season at Ridge View, losing 0-3. Ridge View was the dominant team in a match-up against two ranked teams. SCC never recorded more than 15 points in a set. The Titans passed the ball well as a team but recorded multiple hitting and serving errors.
SCC came into tonight’s match ranked number 15. Jayci Graeve, an all-conference setter last year for the Titans, led the team in kills with seven. Brenna McAlister finished with six kills and also recorded a block. Norah Riedesel led the team in assists, picking up 13. Greave and Riedesel each recorded four digs in the match as well. The loss drops SCC to 0-1 in the early season. The Titans are back in action on Saturday in the Humboldt Invitational.
