Carroll at Winterset

Carroll struggled offensively in Monday’s road contest at Winterset. Both teams were held scoreless, going to the bottom of the second. In the home half of the second, Winterset scored three runs on three hits and a couple of Carroll errors to take an early 3-0 lead. The bottom of the third is when Winterset broke the game open. The Huskies scored five runs in the home half of the third on only four hits. Winterset added four more runs in the fourth and won the Raccoon River Conference matchup 12-0 in four innings.

Carroll only recorded four hits in the game from Makalei Kofron, Emma Kuhlmann, and Parker Adams. The Tigers struggled at the plate, striking out eight times over four innings. Camryn Schable and Averi Burke combined to go four innings in the circle giving up 12 earned runs on 11 hits and striking out two. The loss drops the tiger’sTigers record to 11-9 on the season and 0-7 in conference play. Carroll is back in action on Tuesday at Storm Lake.

East Sac County at Newell Fonda

The Raiders struggled on the road, dropping a conference game to a good Newell Fonda team. Newell Fonda was the first team to score, plating four runs in the bottom of the first. ESC would cut into the Newell Fonda lead by plating a run in the top of the third inning on two hits. The Mustangs would add another run in the home half of the third to extend their lead to 5-1. Newell Fonda plated four more in the fourth to extend their lead 9-1. The Raiders cut into the Mustang lead once again, plating one run to make the score 9-2. Needing only three runs to win the game, the Mustangs did just take, plating three in the home half of the fifth.

The Raiders recorded five hits in the game and walked six times. However, ESC did strike out eight times at the plate. Mary Bontrager had two of the five hits. The Raiders have now lost four in a row. The loss drops ESC to 5-7 on the season and 2-2 in Twin Lakes Conference play. The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday at MVAOCOU.

Alta-Aurelia at South Central Calhoun

The Titans picked up win number one on the season in the fiving-inning blowout win at home Monday night. Alta-Aurelia was the first team on the board, scoring one run in the top of the first inning. SCC went in order in the home half of the first, and Alta-Aurelia was able to add another run in the top of the second to extend their lead to 2-0. SCC took the lead in the bottom of the second and never looked back, scoring three runs on six hits. The Titans would extend their lead in the fourth to 9-2 after plating six runs. SCC would score three more runs in the home half of the fifth to win 12-2 over Alta-Aurelia in five innings.

Onna Haupert pitched all five innings for SCC in the circle striking out five Alta-Aurelia hitters. Olivia Toms recorded three hits in the game for the Titans. The win improves SCC’s record to 1-10 on the season and 1-4 in conference play. SCC is back in action on the road against Pocahontas Area.

CAM at Ar-We-Va

The Rockets struggled in the circle Monday, giving up eight runs on 11 CAM hits. CAM struck first in the game scoring four runs in the top of the first on four hits and two Rocket errors. The Cougars would hold the lead for the rest of the game. They added to their lead in the third, scoring two more runs to make the score 6-0. CAM socred again in the top of the sixth to take an 8-0 lead. Ar-We-Va came to bat in the bottom of the sixth and cut into the CAM lead, scoring two runs to make the score 8-2. Neither team scored in the seventh, and CAM would win this Rolling Valley Conference matchup 8-2.

Ar-We-Va was held to one hit on the night coming off the bat of Maggie Ragaller. The Rockets scored their two runs off of three CAM errors. The loss drops Ar-We-Va to 2-8 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday on the road against Exira EHK.

The Crusaders fell in a close contest at home Monday night against a good Exira-EHK team. Exira-EHK was the first team to score, plating one run in the top of the third inning to lead 1-0. Monday’s Rolling Valley Conference matchup featured good pitching and defense, as the score would stay 1-0 going to the top of the seventh. In the seventh, Exira-EHK scored four runs to take a 5-0 lead going to the home half of the seventh. In the bottom, CRB could not tie the game and lost a close matchup 5-0.

Anna Hart continued her excellent season going all seven innings, striking out 11 Exira-EHK hitters, and giving up five runs. Only one of the five runs given up was earned. The Crusaders only recorded three hits in the game from Hart, Breeley Clayburg, and Kadey Olson. CRB also struck out 11 times in the game. The loss drops CRB to 2-9 on the season and 2-4 in conference play. The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday on the road against Grand View Christian.

Riverside at Audubon

Audubon drops their fourth game of the season at home Monday night. The Wheelers put the ball in play Monday, only striking out three times through seven innings. Riverside strike first, scoring three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Audubon cut into the lead in the home half of the sixth inning to cut into the Riverside lead 3-1. Riverside responded with four runs in the top of the seventh and held Audubon to scoreless in the bottom to win the game 7-1.

The Wheelers only managed four hits in the game from Mattie Nielsen, Jordan Porsch, Kylee Hartl, and Addie Hooker. Alexis Obermeier went all seven innings in the game, giving up four earned runs and striking out nine Riverside hitters. The loss drops the Wheelers to 8-4 on the season and 7-3 in the Western Iowa Conference standings. Audubon is back in action on Tuesday against Treynor on the road.
