Coon Rapids-Bayard had a convincing win over Martensdale St. Mary’s on Friday evening. The Crusaders hosted a doubleheader with the boys playing first. CRB played exactly how they have, and that is with good defense ,as they held the Blue Devils to a lead of 8 in the first. The Crusaders defense stayed strong in the first half as they led 25-9 heading into the break. The Blue Devils had a strong third quarter but with a 13-12 quarter CRB led big heading into the fourth. The Crusaders picked up a 51-30 win at home. They now face St. Albert at Harlan High School on Wednesday.

The Spartans led early but used a big 3rd quarter to separate themselves from their rival in Wednesday’s Regional Final, earning their third win this season against CAM. Jaelynn Petersen was huge for them in the 1st half with 10-points as they built a 17-9 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Zoey Rasmussen and Taryn Petersen added strong first halves as the Spartans hit 4-3’s and led 26-19 at half. In the third quarter, the defense came alive, allowing them to take control of the game and create more offensive chances. They held the Cougars to 7-points and built a 46-26 lead entering the final stanza. Taryn Petersen, Harlow Miller and Zoey Rasmussen each scored 6 points in the 2nd half as the Spartans made four more shots from deep. Harlow did her damage in the paint. Their defense improved in the 4th quarter, allowing only 5-points as they clinched the win.
Jaelynn Petersen and Taryn Petersen led the team in scoring with 14-points each. Zoey Rasmussen scored 12 points, and Harlow Miller finished with 8 points.
The Spartans are 21-1, having won 21 in a row. They play GTRA on Wednesday at Carroll High in a Regional Final on 93.7 KKRL.

Glidden Ralston’s strong season ended Friday at Newell Fonda in a Regional Semifinal. The Wildcats fell behind early because the Mustangs’ defense forced a high paced game. They created turnovers and sped up the young Wildcats, scoring 27-points to lead 27-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Chloe Peters had a strong 1st half for Glidden Ralston, scoring 9 of her 11-points. Jenna Subbert was able to penetrate the lane, scoring at the free throw line and hitting a three. The Wildcats offense improved in the 2nd quarter but they struggled to slow down Newell Fonda and trailed 52-18 at half. A continuous clock in the 2nd half limited scoring opportunities for both teams with Glidden Ralston scoring 15 points.
Chloe Peters led Glidden Ralston with 11 points, Jenna Subbert added 8 points, and Bryn Renze finished with 5 points.
The Wildcats finished the season 14-10.
