Carroll pulled away in the 2nd half to advance into the Regional Final on Wednesday at Forest City, knocking off Humboldt by 15-points. The game went back and forth early, with Carroll taking the lead for good at 13-11 in the 2nd quarter. They holy led 20-16 at half as both defenses were very aggressive and the offenses struggled with missed shots and turnovers. The Tigers stretched the lead to 13 in the 3rd quarter and kept it in double digits the rest of the 2nd half. Their largest lead was 16 in the 2nd half, having it three times over the final few minutes.
Jersey Sporrer hit a three to open the scoring and Chloe Kock put Carroll up 5-0. Humboldt answered with 7-points in a row, taking their first lead. Ali Kock tied the game with a pair of free throws and Jersey Sporrer hit her second 3 and Carroll was back in front 10-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. Humboldt went back up 11-10 but Bella Lu hit a wing three and Carroll took the lead for good, early in the 2nd quarter. Jersey Sporrer put Carroll up 16-13 but the Wildcats answered with a three, tying the game at 16. Carroll ended the half with four straight frees with two each from Analia Ayala and Sadie Kelly.
Ali Kock started the Tigers off in the 2nd half, pushing their lead to 22-16. They hung around four to six until Bella Lu hit a three, putting Carroll up 30-23. Humboldt cut it to 30-25 before Analia Ayala hit a three, followed by a pair of free throws from Ali Kock and Carroll led 36-25. Bella Lu hit a bucket to keep Carroll up 12 but Humboldt hit three at the buzzer, pulling the Wildcats within 40-30 entering the 4th quarter. Ali Kock had three straight baskets to start the 4th quarter and Carroll was in control, up 46-30. The Tigers never allowed Humboldt within 12-points the rest of the game.
Ali Kock had 22-points and 17 rebounds with Analia Ayala adding 8-points and 6 rebounds, Chloe Kock 6-points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks and Jersey Sporrer finished with 7-points. Carroll was balanced behind Ali Kock with Bella Lu scoring 8-points and Sadie Kelly pulling down 6 rebounds.
Carroll improved to 6-16 on the season and will head to Forest City on Wednesday.

Red Oak at Kuemper – Class 3A Region 2

Kuemper picked up a win over a Hawkeye 10 opponent in Red Oak to advance in the Class 3A Region 2 postseason. The Knights were without Alivia Schenkelberg, which put Morgan Masching into the starting 5 for the Knights. Kuemper dominated defensively early, dropping into a 2-3 zone and pressing to throw off what Red Oak’s offense intended to do. Elsa Tiefenthaler accounted for4 of the first 6 and 11 of the first 18 as Kuemper rolled to a 30-0 first-quarter lead. Kuemper pulled off the press and 2-3 zone, which allowed Red Oak to get into an offensive set, but Kuemper still led 44-5 at the halftime break. The Knights had 10 steals in the first half,f and it was 6:20 in the second before a Red Oak field goal. Kuemper left their starters in for half of the third, then took a seat for the night. Kuemper rolled in the second half for a 66-20 win. The Knights now face the winner of Van Meter and Atlantic in the second round at home.

East Sac built a nice lead in the 1st quarter but had the lead slip away and went scoreless in the 4th quarter, falling to Madrid in the Regional Quarterfinals. The Raiders started fast, building a 12-4 lead but lead 14-11 at the end of the 1st quarter as Madrid closed the quarter gaining some confidence. Reese Aschinger and Sarah Bontrager were a big part of the Raiders offense in the 1st half. Aschinger led the Raiders with 7-point in the 1st half with Bontrager scoring 5-points. East Sac found themselves down 27-23 though at the half. The game remained tight in the 3rd with Madrid taking a 37-32 lead into the final stanza. The Raiders were not able to get anything to fall in the 4th quarter and Madrid stretched the lead to 42-32 to end the game.
Reese Aschinger led the Raiders with 12-points with Scottie Eichhorn adding 6-points and 2 blocks and Sarah Bontrager with 5-points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Jordin Carroll added 5 rebounds.
East Sac ends their season at 9-13.
