Kuemper Vs St Albert At Casey’s Center

Kuemper clinched the Hawkeye 10 Conference title in style at the Casey’s Center, rolling past St Albert in a battle of two of the top three teams. Both offenses came out sharp in the 1st quarter as Kuemper took a 26-20 lead into the 2nd quarter. The Knights were able to have success inside and out while St Albert struggled from deep. Kuemper took control of the game with their defense and dominated the boards, pulling down 38 rebounds with 13 on the offensive end. They pushed the lead to 47-31 at half with a balanced scoring attack. Dylan Schon led them in the 1st half with 14-points with Griffin Glynn adding 9-points and Jack Badding and Ryan Clair each with 7-points. The 3rd quarter was similar to the 1st with both offenses finding a rhythm. Kuemper was able to stretch their lead to 71-52 heading to the 4th quarter.

Griffin Glynn paced the offense with 21-points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists while Dylan Schon and Ryan Clair both had 19-points. Clair added 12 rebounds and 5 assists with Schon having 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Jack Badding added 15-points and 3 assists with a pair of blocks.

The Knights improved to 18-3 overall heading into their home game on Thursday against Creston.

The game in Alleman was a tale of two halves with North Polk building a comfortable lead in the 1st half and Carroll locking things down in the 2nd half and getting big games from Jared Mohr and Mac Collison. The Comets hit 5-3’s in the 1st half and turned the Tigers over eight times, building a 21-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and a 33-20 lead at half. Carroll was more disciplined on defense in the 2nd half with Lual Tharjiath breaking the school record of 57 blocked shots in a season, held by Adam Haluska and Greg Schulz. Tharjiath had a pair of blocks on Tuesday and now has 58 blocks this season. Carroll wasn’t just better defensively in the 2nd half. They did a nice job in transition and fought their way back in the game, outscoring North Polk 23-16. Mac Collison had 12-points in the 2nd half and Jared Mohr added 16-points in the 2nd half. They helped Carroll erase the deficit, outscoring North Polk 24-10 in the 4th quarter to win 67-59.

Jared Mohr led Carroll with 18-points to go with 7 rebounds. Mac Collison had 17-points and Lual Tharjiath adding 12-points and 10 rebounds to go with 2 blocks to set the single season school record with 58. Trey Tassel added 12-points.

Carroll improves to 16-4 overall and will host Gilbert on Friday.

Audubon won their fourth in a row, improving to 13-8 overall and 8-7 in the Western Iowa Conference. Austin Christensen and Jorgen Nowtazke had big offensive games, combining for 18-points in the 1st half as the Wheelers took a 34-20 lead at half. The game was tight through the 1st quarter with the Vikings leading 13-12 going to the 2nd quarter. The Wheelers did their damage in the lane, getting to the rim. They only took four shots from behind the arc, not making any of them. They hit over 53% from the field  and 57% from inside the arc. They went 8-9 from the free throw line. Audubon had to battle in the 2nd half as AHSTW went on a run in the 3rd and trailed 48-41 going to the final stanza. Jorgen Nowatzke scored 12-points in the 2nd half and Austin Christensen added 15-points in the 2nd half. They both hit free throws in the 2nd half with Ryan Hermansen hitting free throws as well.

Austin Christensen had a double-double with 23-points and 11 rebounds while Jorgen Nowatzke had 22-points. Brody Schultes added 8-points and 4 rebounds.

Audubon closes out the regular season on Thursday when they host IKM-Manning.

South Central Calhoun’s zone defense created some issues for East Sac, cutting off any inside game and forcing them to shoot from beyond the arc. The Raiders hit 11-3’s, shooting 36% but it wasn’t enough as South Central Calhoun slowly edged away and then held on as East Sac tried to rally in the 4th quarter. The Titans held the Raiders to 8-points in each of the 1st quarter and 2nd quarter, building a 25-16 lead at half. The Titans offense was balanced with three guys scoring in double figures doing a nice job getting shots inside the paint and midrange jumpers. Charlie Nattress led the offensive in the 1st half while Evan Myers and Halas Steig took on the scoring roll in the 2nd half. East Sac made a charge in the 2nd half and the 4th quarter as they got hot from deep. The Raiders hit 7 of their 11-3’s in the 2nd half.

Charlie Nattress and Evan Myers both had 15-points for South Central Calhoun with Halas Steig added 11-points.

Zach Jacobsen paced the Raiders with 11-points, hitting 3-3’s. Beckem Kluver added 9 points with Grayson Rubendall having 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

South Central Calhoun sits 11-9 overall as they head to Storm Lake on Thursday. East Sac falls to 4-16 and will head to Ridge View on Thursday.
