Carroll won three of the four games they played this week, ending it with a nice win over Denison Schleswig. The Tigers defense was strong, using active hands to force turnovers which led to easy buckets. The offense was sharp, getting inside and kicking to the perimeter, where they shot it well, hitting 8-3’s with Chase Schable, Jared Mohr and Tallon Crandall all making two of them. The Monarchs stayed close for part of the 1st half, hitting 10-12 from the free throw line. Carroll led 18-14 at the end of the 1st quarter after Denison Schleswig hit a deep shot at the buzzer. A burst in the 2nd quarter allowed Carroll to separate, leading 38-24 at half. The Tigers put the game out of reach in the 3rd quarter.
Jared Mohr came out firing, hitting an early 3 but Denison Schleswig matched it with a three. Lual Tharjiath, had a big game and it started early with a dunk inside as Carroll led 5-3. The Monarchs went on a 4-0 run, taking their only lead. Trey Tassell, who did a nice job attacking the rim, tied the game at 7 and Chase Schable gave Carroll the lead for good with a three, making it 10-7. Jared Mohr pushed it to 12-7 and Tallon Crandall drained a three late in the quarter. A Mason Stitz three gave Carroll their largest lead of the quarter at 18-11. Denison Schleswig hit a buzzer beater to pull within 18-14 at the end of the quarter. Landon Petersen stretched the Carroll lead to 21-14 and Lual Tharjiath and Jared Mohr stretched it to 26-14 with Tharjiath scoring inside and Mohr hitting a three. A Tiger 7-0 run opened the game up with Jared Mohr hitting two free throws, followed by a three from Tallon Crandall and a bucket by Landon Petersen. Denison Schleswig pulled with 33-21 but Chase Schable hit another three, followed by a bucket from Lual Tharjiath.
A Trey Tassell three-point play, followed by Tassell hitting three straight free throws. Lual Tharjiath hit a bucket and Carroll led 47-24. The Tigers stretched the lead to 60-30 in the 3rd quarter and led 63-35 late in the 3rd quarter after a basket by Jak Jorgensen.
Jared Mohr paced a Tigers offense that had four players in double figures, scoring 15-points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Mohr added 3 steals. Lual Tharjiath gave Carroll two players with a double-double, scoring 13-points with 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Landon Petersen had 13-points with 5 steals and Trey Tassell added 12-points.
Carroll improved to 15-4 and will head to North Polk on Tuesday.
