Coon Rapids-Bayard at Woodbine

Coon Rapids-Bayard    67

Woodbine     53

Coon Rapids-Bayard picked up a massive win over Woodbine on Friday. The Crusaders sat ranked 5th in Class 1A and 10-0 in conference play. Woodbine had split a little, with some injuries and mixed-up lineups, as they came in at 8-3 in the conference. This was a rematch of the double-overtime game of the year contender between the two teams from back in December, when CRB won 63-54. Coon came out very fast as they knocked down shots early and led 9-2 before Woodbine battled back to make it 10-8, which caused a Crusader timeout. CRB knocked down a 3, which allowed them to lead 13-8 heading into the 2nd quarter. The 2nd started all CRB as they hit some shots and went up 18-8, which prompted a timeout from Woodbine. The Tigers battled all the way back, and Brodyn Pryor knocked down a midrange shot with 30 sec left to give the Tigers the 27-26 lead heading into halftime. During the 1st half, Landon Blum had a dunk in the 2nd which would be the 1000th point of his career. The 3rd quarter went back and forth at the start, with 5 lead changes in just over 3:30 minutes of gametime. Bryce Lewis got hot as he hit 3 threes in back-to-back-to-back possessions, all from the same left wing position to spark a 13-0 run and a 47-32 lead for CRB in the 3rd. The Crusaders closed that run as a 16-0 run and a 50-32 lead after the 3rd. In the 4th, it was a slugfest as both teams traded baskets. Henry Gruver would nail 3 3’s for the Tigers, Landon Blum had 2, and Brodyn Pryor had 1 as they tried to crawl back in. CRB stayed consistent offensively even without Gavin Heiderscheit, who exited with an injury. The Tigers had it down to 12 at one point, but CRB was able to hold on to pick up a 67-53 victory on the road. Cal Heydon led the Crusaders with 26 points and 12 rebounds. CRB remains perfect at 11-0 in the RVC and are a couple of steps from a conference title.
