Kuemper Girls hosted Earlham for non-conference basketball action Thursday evening. Kuemper and Earlham came out very neck and neck with Earlham had a 14-12 lead after the 1st. Earlham was able to gain some separation through their defense as they held Kuemper to 8 in the 2nd for a 27-20 lead at the break. Kuemper came to play in the 2nd half with a huge 19 point 3rd quarter to retake the lead 39-37. Kuemper was able to outscore Earlham in the final quarter to pick up the 57-54 win at home.

Carroll Girls traveled down the Council Bluffs to take on Class 1A #3 St. Albert Thursday. The Tigers came in at 5-8 on the season while the Saintes sat at 14-1 with a lone loss to Newell-Fonda. The Tigers trailed early as St. Albert was able to score plenty to lead 25-10 after 1. Both teams scored well in the 2nd at 20-20 for the quarter but St. Albert was able to lead 55-30. Carroll struggled to score in the 2nd half as they had 7 and 5 and gave up 29 to fall 74-42 on the road. The Tigers fall to 5-9 on the year.

Coon Rapids Bayard At IKM-Manning

Coon Rapids Bayard slipped past IKM-Manning in a game that was tight all the way as Aubrey Hofbauer gave them the lead for good with a big three in the closing minutes. The Crusaders hit free throws down the stretch as IKM-Manning kept battling with Keagan Eischeid and Anna Stangl both hitting big shots for the Wolves. The game featured five lead changes and four ties with Coon Rapids Bayard leading by six a few times and IKM-Manning taking a 5-point lead early.

Keagan Eischeid had a pair of baskets early and Anna Stangl scored as IKM-Manning went up 6-1 to start the game. Malia Clayburg had a three-point play for Coon Rapids Bayard but Ella Langel responded for IKM-Manning and they led 8-4. Aubrey Hofbauer and Anna Hart scored back-to-back, tying the game at 8 but Keagan Eischeid kept the Wolves up with a basket for a 10-8 lead. Oriah Meiners kept IKM-Manning late in the 1st quarter before Ella Heithoff drilled a three to tie the game at 12-12. Ashtyn Klocke put the Crusaders up 15-12 with a three to start the 2nd quarter and Aubrey Hofbauer followed with a three, giving them a 18-12 lead. After a Keagan Eischeid free throw, Kadynce Ketchem hit a bucket and Olivia Linde tied the game at 18 with a three. Coon Rapids Bayard kept the lead with a pair of free throws from Malia Clayburg and a Mya Downing bucket. Aubrey Hofbauer added a free throw, putting Coon Rapids Bayard up 23-18. IKM-Manning closed out the half with a 3-0 run at the free throw line.

Anna Hart and Anna Stangl traded baskets to start the 2nd half as Coon Rapids Bayard maintained the lead around three to five points most of the quarter. IKM-Manning outscored Coon Rapids Bayard 8-7 with the Wolves hitting four free throws to close out the quarter down 30-29. Anna Stangl gave the Wolves a 31-30 lead early in the 4th quarter. She extended it to 34-30 with a three but Malia Clayburg answered with a bucket. Malia Clayburg scored four in a row and Coon Rapids Bayard led 36-35. Keagan Eischeid scored inside to put the Wolves up 37-36. Aubrey Hofbauer had the answer, drilling a wing three and Coon Rapids Bayard led 39-37. Malia Clayburg hit a free throw and Ella Heithoff drained a pair of free throws and the Crusaders were up 42-38. Anna Stangl hit a floating three with 0:11.9 left and IKM-Manning had a chance, down 42-41. Anna Hart sealed the win with a pair of free throws and IKM-Manning wasn’t able to get a shot off.

Malia Clayburg had a team high 14-points along with 6 rebounds. Aubrey Hofbauer had a strong all-around game with 9-points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Anna Hart added 10-points and Ashtyn Klocke finished with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

Anna Stangl led IKM-Manning with  16-points and 6 steals with Keagan Eischeid adding 14-points with 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Oriah Meiners and Addisyn Bandow both had 6 rebounds and Karlee Arp had 6 rebounds with 5 assists.

Coon Rapids Bayard moved to 11-4 and will take on Harlan on Monday at the Casey’s Center. IKM-Manning slips to 7-7 and will host Ar-We-Va on Monday.

Ar-We-Va took on LoMa on the road Thursday evening. The Rockets were searching for their first win and the panthers came in at 1-16. LoMa had a good offensive night and was able to pick up the 49-35 win at home to move to 2-16 on the season. Ar-We-Va falls to 0-15 on the year. Mara Obrecht had 16 points. Gabbie Hundling and Hallie McCollough both had 6 rebounds.

Exira-EHK traveled to Van Meter for out of conference Basketball Thursday. The Spartans faced off with Van Meter as the #8 team in Class 1A. Both teams came out early and tied up at 12 a piece. Exira-EHK than did what they do in the 2nd as the Spartans went on a 19-6 run in the quarter. The Spartans would hold Van Meter to 5 in the 3rd and 13 in the 4th to outscore them in both. The Spartans pick up a 58-36 win on the road led by Taryn Petersen with 29 points.

East Sac hosted a non conference opponent in MVAOCOU on Thursday evening. The Raiders came in at 6-7 while the Rams sat at 10-2. East Sac struggled with the Rams press and zone early as MVAOCOU took a 22-6 lead after the 1st. Both teams settled in defensively in the 2nd with a 5-4 quarter for a 27-10 lead for the Rams at the break. Sarah Bontrager had good looks early in the 3rd with a quick set of buckets to cut the lead down to 12 before MVAOCOU regained their lead going into the 4th. MVAOCOU was able to pull away for the 58-38 win on the road. East Sac takes on Alta-Aurelia on Friday as they sit 6-8 on the year.

Glidden-Ralston hosted a non conference game with Tri-Center on Thursday. The Wildcats had a record of 8-7 while the Trojans came in at 4-9. The Wildcats came out hot early and led 18-6 after the 1st quarter. They would back that up with yet again more offense and a 16 point 2nd quarter. The Wildcats defense was also sound as they held Tri-Center to 33 points for the total of the game. The Wildcats wwere able to handle pressure and had few turnovers during the matchup. Jenna Subbert led the Wildcats with 13 points and 4 rebounds. Glidden-Ralston picked up a 56-33 win at home to move to 9-7 on the season.
