Woodbine At Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va battled back from down 15 to trail by 3 late in the game but Woodbine hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 0:30 to hold on and win 61-56. The Rockets played extremely well most of the night but missed some shots at the rim in the 2nd quarter and had a cold start to the 3rd, helping Woodbine extend their lead after the game was tied at 18 at the end of the 1st quarter. The game featured two lead changes and two ties with Ar-We-Va leading 21-20 early in the 2nd quarter. Woodbine responded, grabbing the lead back at 23-21 and went on a 10-2 run to push their lead to 33-23 late in the half. Woodbine had three possessions late in the half, up ten but the Rockets had three straight stops with a pair of steals. Ar-We-Va didn’t score off the stops until Hayden Studer made a steal and layup in the closing seconds of the half. Landon Blum carried Woodbine in the 1st half, scoring 16 of their 33-points, hitting four of five 3’s at one point. The Rockets trailed 46-34 entering the final stanza.

Woodbine jumped out 5-0 but Ar-We-Va battled back with Wyatt Ragaller making a basket and Devon Ehlers hitting a free throw. The 1st quarter was intense, good basketball with both teams shooting it well from outside. The Tigers went up 11-3 before Derek Thomsen and Wyatt Ragaller both hitting a three. Ragaller hit another three, pulling the Rockets within 14-11. Woodbine kept extending the lead but Ar-We-Va kept answering before going on a 4-0 run to end the 1st quarter with Grant Wilken hitting  three to tie the game at 18. After Woodbine scored to start the 2nd quarter Hayden Studer put Ar-We-Va up for a moment with a three. They 21-20 lead didn’t last as Woodbine hit a three, then closed the half on a 10-4 run to lead 33-25 at half.

Wyatt Ragaller scored to start the 3rd quarter and Ar-We-Va was down 33-27. The Tigers again responded, going on a 7-4 run to lead 40-31 after a basket by Derek Thomsen. A 6-0 spurt put the Tigers up 46-31, their largest lead of the game but Wyatt Ragaller scored inside and Devon Ehlers hit a free throw and Ar-We-Va trailed 46-34 entering the final stanza. The lead stayed near double digits into the 4th quarter before Ar-We-Va chipped away. Tyson Von Glan pulled the Rockets within 54-45 and Grant Wilken hit a three, making it 56-48. A pair of free throws from Wyatt Ragaller and a three from Hayden Studer moments later and Ar-We-Va was down 57-54 with under a minute remaining. Aiden Summerfield and Henry Gruver combined to go 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the final 0:30 to keep Woodbine in front. Derek Thomsen hit a driving layup to pull the Rockets within 59-56 but Gruver hit both free throws to seal the win.

Wyatt Ragaller paced the Rockets with 24-points and 4 steals. Derek Thomsen added 12-points and Hayden Studer added 11-points and 5 steals. Grant Wilken finished with 6-points and Tyson Von Glan snared 7 rebounds.

The Rockets fall to 10-6 overall and will travel to CAM on Tuesday.

CAM at Paton-Churdan

Paton-Churdan hosted CAM in basketball action Friday night. The Rockets have battled some tough opponents and now face a solid CAM team. CAM made some shots early, and P-C struggled to find the same shots, trailing 14-6 after 1. The Cougars kept up the same momentum in the 2nd, but the Rockets managed to battle back as it was 30-16 before a 7-point run to trail 30-23 at the break. CAM dialed in up in the 3rd as they would have a 10-2 run and lead 40-32 after the 3rd. The Rockets would start to knock some shots down and the rallied back from down 45-33 at the start of the quarter for a 52-47 win at home, snapping a 6 game losing streak.

East Sac traveled to Alta-Aurelia for their second straight night of basketball. The Raiders were hot off a thrilling 43-42 last-second win at home over MVAOCOU on Thursday evening. The Raiders were also on a 3-game winning streak after starting the year 1-8. The Raiders struggled defensively early, allowing some buckets, and trailed 19-7 after the 1st quarter. The Raiders got some buckets in the 2nd, cutting the lead to 30-24 at the break. With a 10-8 3rd quarter, the Raiders would once again than cut the lead down to 4 as they went into the 4th quarter. East Sac struggled to get the stops and buckets they needed in the 4th as they would fall 52-43 on the road. Zach Jacobsen led the Raiders with 13 points while Grayson Rubendall had 9 boards and Carson Schmitt added 5 steals.
